Don't Miss

2012 WIESNER INSURANCE ONTARIO CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP PRESENTED BY APEX CYCLE KTM IS SET TO GO!

Yes, the 2012 race season is finally upon us with a mere number of days before racers descend on round one at historic Motopark. It has been made clear to us that this excellent facility is a favourite among XC competitors with its fast forest sections and MX inspired layout.

Work began this past weekend setting up this event which will be the first of two stops at Motopark in 2012. Round #1 on May 13th will feature the full length forest system with the addition of some exciting new trail. Course length will be 6.5 kilometres and be mostly open with a few very technical sections thrown in. The afternoon program will have an additional section of technical trail that was part of the “Extreme Test” in the 2011 Motopark Ontario CEC.

As with every event at Motopark, full facilities are on site featuring washrooms, showers, camping, RV hook up, and complete restaurant.

This season will feature all the same racer benefits as past WEC XC events pioneered. Pros will continue to be awarded 100% cash payback. The $100 Wiesner Insurance Pro Holeshot award will be returning as well. In addition, there is another award compliments of Royal Distributing, $50 for the Pro rider leading the race at the half way point!

Amateurs will continue to compete for the $100 Apex Cycle KTM Amateur Holeshot Award. Of course, there will be the return of the $100 Wiesner Insurance Fastest Lap Award which is given to the Amateur rider that puts in the best time on any lap of their race. The class receiving this award is always selected randomly the morning of the event.

The WEC youth program has generated some real stellar riders in the past three years. WEC XC events will continue to be sharply focused on our youth riders and we acknowledge these talented kids as the future of the sport. Returning for a third season will be our full Ontario Championship in the Pee Wee (50cc) class with points paying races at every round. This season one lucky Pee Wee rider will win a brand new Marin bicycle courtesy of Royal Distributing – every time a Pee Wee rider enters an event their name will go into a draw and at the final event in September one racer will go home with a new bicycle!

Motopark Round #1 will operate in the “Classic” format of:

Pee Wee                                   30 minutes

Mini Junior / Mini Senior             1 Hour

All Amateur classes                   2 Hours

Pro                                           2.5 Hours

After WEC introduced electronic transponder scoring in 2008, most riders are equipped with a transponder at this point but if any rider requires one, they will be available at registration. Many riders have already purchased their 2012 Competition license online as this service has been available since December. For those that do not have their 2012 Competition License yet and wish to purchase it at the event, there is no problem doing this as licenses will be sold at the event as well with no financial penalty for doing it last minute as it’s a simple and fast process.
