Well the countdown to Christmas is on, hope you are all enjoying the cold weather and taking total advantage of any type of indoor riding you can get. In Saskatchewan we never got the chance to do any indoor riding because there was nothing out there offering such a thing, so I am more than envious of anyone who gets a chance to be able to ride a dirt bike at this time of year. I have been following the BC Arenacross quite a bit and it seems like they have it all together over there, the series looks professional and the turnouts for the pro classes are top notch. Would love to see more girls racing over there, it’s great to see our lone ranger Rachel still out there going strong, she’s a great role model for all the young up and coming girls. She is a very approachable person with a strong passion for the sport which is why I think we both get along so well.
Rachel, Camille and I are all very close and have been since before the Women’s Nationals even started. We were three young girls looking for more competitive racing and in Canada at the time the only place to go was the Western Amateur Nationals, it was the one place we could compete with all of the top girls in Western Canada. You could see the potential for great racing was there and the stepping stone was set in place for a bigger better series for the Women in Canada.
We have endless amounts of memories through our many travels across Canada, whether that be the girl drama behind the scenes of racing (not usually involving us, we would just sit back and watch it all unfold), or having great battles on the track. We are all supportive of each other and when we are out racing, it’s do or die, but as soon as the finish flag goes up it’s all left out out on the track. Our friendship is something that I think most people in the motocross industry have, a great group of friends that share the same knowledge and passion for something they love and can connect in a way that not many people in other sports can.
I will leave you with a funny thing Camille said to me last week before she went on her honeymoon. I called her to talk about some stuff for the Women’s Series and she said “Denaye, it’s so cold here!” and I said “Camille, how cold is it?” she said “it’s plus 2, I had to pull out my mittens!” I then said “Are you crazy! It’s -35, you would die here!” That girl…I just shake my head sometimes.
Love you guys and can’t wait for our Cougar class dreams to come alive.
