The Future West Canadian Arenacross series is set to resume with rounds 3 & 4 this friday night at the Cloverdale Exhibition grounds newly renovated Agriplex. After a highly successful series opener in Armstrong BC two weeks previous all the momentum and excitement surrounding this high energy discipline of our sport continues to build. The Cloverdale venue has been recently renovated and even if at first glance it does not appear different there have been some substantial changes, the most notable of which being the addition of new LED lighting. The bright, vibrant, colourful confines of the Cloverdale shrine will provide great comfortable conditions and vantage points for what is expected to be capacity crowds for both nights of racing.

The track has been masterfully designed by the Future West team and strategically encompasses every inch of the floors allowable racing footprint. The rain on the West Coast here of late has been of Biblical proportions and I am sure has had many contemplating building and Ark. Good news though, well even if the projected forecast of sunny skies and highs of 13 degrees do not materialize for the weekend there is four walls and a roof surrounding this weekends Future West playground. The soil this weekend will be much different than the hard packed conditions of Armstrong which made acceleration and braking a game breaker for some. The Cloverdale soil is traditionally softer and I believe it will make things a little more interesting as alternate line ruts will likely be key not only in corners but in the whoop section which is a whole straightaway long.

Cycle North Honda rider and new father Ross Johnson looks to continue his winning ways this weekend in Cloverdale, BC

With the likes of Ross Johsnon coming in fresh off the birth of his son and his top shelf series leading performance in Armstrong on his Cycle North Honda who does Cloverdale favour. I believe there are at least 7 or 8 in each of the Pro Classes that could potentially win moto’s this weekend or at least climb aboard the podium. Teddy Maier was on point in Armstrong and will challenge for the top step both nights as will the likes of Shawn Maffenbier, Adam Enticknapp, Chris Howell, Brad Nauditt, Brock Hoyer, Jake Anstett, Dylan Schmoke and more! I also believe we will see the pro numbers increase in Cloverdale as word on the street is that Rod Matechuck from RMR Suspension plans to saddle up Ricky Dietrich and Alex Harvill to add to contend for all the weekends Future West glory and gold.

As always starts and gate pick will be critical this weekend as will be minimizing any type of mistakes that can happen indoors in a heartbeat in a style of racing which provides all levels of riders not a fraction of a second to deviate from the task at hand. Couple those factors with the ‘other rider’ syndrome simply meaning that when racing in Arenacross riders are sometimes at the mercy or victim to decisions made by other riders. The Armstrong get together between Shawn Maffenbier and Leading Edge Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier a classic example of that. Yes cause and effect comes into play and for every action there is a reaction, whether that action be adverse or positive only time will tell. This weekend should be a great weekend of racing as the all the major combatants look to continue to write their way into this editions history books in their efforts to ascend to the podium. Who will we see this weekend harness all the tangibles needed to succeed in hitting the box and not the matt?
