A July Sunday in Elko Minnesota
Photos and report by Matt Wellumson
www.mxmatt.com Besides he highly renowned motocross states like California, Florida and Texas, Minnesota also features a few great tracks that can often feature intense racing action. It is also quite common to see Pro Licensed "A" riders attending local events to gain extra seat time, and depending on the event, a bit of extra cash. Among the professionals, these events also include many hopeful future professionals working their way up the ranks.
In Elko Minnesota (not far from Minneapolis), there exists a track that often attracts many of the region's fast amateur riders. One such event was held on July 20th, when many amateurs and two local favorite pro riders attended the AMA sanctioned race held that day. Those riders were the (locally) well known Dehn brothers, John and Bruce. As in most cases when these two attend events, their efforts resulted in ultra fast motos, causing their competitors to push themselves harder to challenge their normally quick lap times. That being said, the competition did not go down without a fight to the end. Along with the pro action, similarly heated battles also occurred in the many other classes, from 65cc group all the way up to Vet 40+. An attempt was made to capture little bits of all the big track classes, so hopefully you all can enjoy!
