Monday Maniac #4

Monday Maniac #4

Hello out there in web land, and welcome to the fourth edition of the Monday Maniac. This week was a slow one for racing news in Canada. I mean there was a lot going on, but not much north of the border. I did get my hands on some great rumours, but I’m not allowed to reveal anything just yet. It involves some Americans coming up to race this summer in Canada; quality names too. Stay tuned in the next few weeks to get more info on that.

We here at MXP are getting our first issue of the 2010 season under way. It will hit the newsstands and mailboxes around the time of the Toronto SX. We have tons of good stories, some inside looks into riders and teams, plus coverage from some crazy trips I’m going on in the next month. I’m really looking forward to going to California next Monday and meeting up with Jeff Williams of Ogio. We’ll be heading to Temecula for some crazy fun with the Nitro Circus crew. Thanks in advance, once again, Jeff for setting me up. I'm also going to be seeing Dean Wilson as he prepares for his 2010 SX debut in Indy on February 20th. This kid has the speed, talent and drive to become the best Canadian to ever throw a leg over a bike in the US. I know tons of east coast SX fans that are making the trek down to Indy to see his first race.

The Feb. 20th AMA supercross debut for Dean Wilson is fast approaching. Will you be there?

Colton Facciotti, Kyle Beaton, Spencer Knowles and a few others were in England this past weekend, and from the looks of the results they did okay. Colton managed to win a final and take second in another. Beats grabbed a fourth in one main, and was leading the other but crashed. He is okay by the sounds of things. The whole group should be home soon. Way to wave to our colours across the pond boys!!

Blackfoot/Yamaha/Red Bull/Fox's Colton Facciotti claimed a victory in England this past weekend.

His teammate, Kyle Beaton, didn't have the same good fortune. He crashed while leading the SX1 Main. He's okay though.

MXP was recently sent a letter with concerns about sexual content in the magazine. Right out of the gate we all know that in today's world sex sells. It is hard to justify it sometimes, but dressing women up in sexy gear always makes your product look better. I mean, have you seen the Monster Girls of SX yet? They are dressed sexier than ever with their leather tops and skirted bottoms. They make me want to buy a can of Monster and go to a SX, so they are doing a great job. I also see tons of families with kids under the age of 10 still enjoying the races and getting the SX experience. So what is too far with sexual exploitation?

Mason Phillips became the Seniors Lites class champion in New Zealand this past weekend

I was watching the Toronto Maple Leafs game last week when they were on a road trip to Nashville, Tampa Bay and Miami. Hockey is the biggest sport in Canada, as well as the  most influential. Every little boy and girl has a dream of being part of hockey when raised in Canada, whether it is playing the game, or just being involved in it some way. Well, another way for a girl to get involved in hockey in the southern states is to become a snow removal girl. As I watched the game, I noticed sexy girls dressed in very revealing attire coming on the ice, as the TV coverage went to commercial, to clear snow out of the crease for the goalie and away from the benches for the players. At a Leaf game in Toronto, this is done by men with very little hair most of the time. Let me ask you, which would you rather see, a girl or a guy? However, having people sit in their seats checking out the sexy chicks during a break instead of buying beer and nachos backfires a little too, I guess. The whole point is these girls are dressed just like the Monster Julies, but in hockey.

The Monster Julies are very sexy looking ladies. They are also very professional and promote the company they work for very well.

Have you ever watched MTV? The whole idea of MTV is reality and sex. Every show on that channel has to do with sex. Have you seen the show “Jersey Shore”? These "Guidos", as they're called, live in a house together, and there’s nothing but fights and sexy dressed girls partying all summer long. Is that too far? Some may say yes and some may say no. Some just may say that it's what the world pushes these days so get over it, or don’t watch it if you don't like it.

Of course MXP does not want to exploit girls, but it’s not just in motocross magazines where this happens. It’s everywhere in today's superficial day and age. So will you never let your child watch MTV? Will you never let your child watch a Leaf game, or any other Canadian team that plays in the southern states now that they have Monster-type girls skating around the ice? I guess that's why they have the food network and TLC for people that just can't go with the flow of “Sex Sells”. Sounds a  little boring to me, but it’s your choice.

These are the Tampa Bay Lightning dancers. They are professional, beautifull and promote hockey, not sex. They even have programs for Junior dancers; young girls that want to become part of the group.

So that being said, we have made changes at MXP to address these issues so the MXP Maiden is no longer part of the magazine, however, there will still be pictures of beautiful girls that roam the track. There will be more Monster ladies at the races this summer, and there will still be girls dressing whatever way they want to when they go to the races to watch the best sport in the world. I can't stop it and neither can you.
