The Weekly Roost #4 By: Kyle Carruthers
We’re another week closer to spring and getting our dirt scooters back out to start ripping some laps! It also means I’m another week older. It was my birthday last Tuesday. That’s right folks, I turned the Big 2-0. For some of you that may seem young and that I have my whole life ahead of me. Well, you’re right, but at the same time I feel old! My days of being a kid our gone technically, and I’ll never be a teenager again. I’m about to graduate college this spring, and I can hardly wait to see what life has in store! What will I do? Just work the rest of my life? I have tons of questions that I have been asking myself for the past few days and I think it makes the most sense not to answer any of them. All I know is that you’re only as young as you feel and I plan on being young for a long time to come! I’m young so it’s time to have some fun in life, enjoy it while I can and maybe not take it all so seriously. Life is too short to sit around and smell the roses. Even if that means dusting off my old moto boots and lining back up on the gate for my first race in almost two years this Spring! Who knows what I will do, but one thing I do know is that motocross will always be a passion of mine whether it is full bore racing or just riding in the hills with my buddies. Some of my best memories are from growing up racing. I’ll never forget my first race. I was so nervous going into it. I must have been a little too close to the gate on the start because when it dropped my front wheel was stuck in it and everyone else was gone! I got my bike out of the gate, managed to catch up to the pack, passed a few riders and came off smiling like I just won the lottery. I was hooked from there on out! I still remember going and buying my first 4-stroke. It was a used 2004 CRF 250, and this was in ‘06 when I went to buy it. I remember getting on that bike; compared to my old and beaten 125, I felt invincible and it showed at my first race when I busted my first holeshot! One memory I will never forget is that feeling rounding the corner in first at the Muttco Mountian track and wondering where everyone was until I came to my senses and realized I was in the lead! I went on to finish third that race, and to me that was sweet considering my best finish before that was an 11th! Those are just a couple of my moto memories. Have any cool ones of your own? Shoot me an email at kyle@mxpmag.com
Happy B-Day Gauldy!! I would also like to throw a Happy Birthday wish out to MXP’s Editor, Ryan Gauld, who punched in another year on the clock yesterday. Ryan is lucky enough to be celebrating it down in the California sun while doing some magazine stuff that included hanging out with Pro Circuit rider Dean Wilson and spending some time with the Travis Pastrana and the Nitro Circus crew. Hope it was a good one Gauldy! Also, Blackfoot Yamaha’s newest edition, Tyler Medaglia, celebrated his birthday yesterday too so here’s a Happy Birthday to Tyler from everyone over here at MXP.
Happy B-day Tyler!!! We saw another suspenseful race down south at the fourth round of the Monster Energy Supercross Series. Both of the series stars are out with injuries, and in my opinion that has brought us some of the best racing we have seen yet. Dungey crashes and Villopoto takes his first win of the year. However, Hill didn’t make it easy on RV. What will happen to Dungey now? Will the pressure get to him and will he keep making those rookie mistakes? Or will he come out this weekend in San Diego and show people that last weekend was fluke? Whatever happens, there will be more, great racing to keep us content in the winter months! I wasn’t able to catch the lites race on TV this weekend so I don’t have much to comment on there. On another note, make sure you get your Toronto Supercross tickets. The biggest series in the world only comes to Canadian soil once a year and rumours have it that ticket sales are way down and it won’t be returning next year. Let’s prove them wrong and show the world that Canada does have some of the best and craziest moto fans in the world! I haven’t heard of any Canadians who will be racing the Toronto Supercross this year. I spoke to Kyle Keast on the weekend when I was at his place watching the race, and he is still unsure whether he’ll be participating or not as he is still waiting to hear more about his 2010 plans for the summer. Everything is up in the air for him as it is for many other riders in Canada.
Still unsure about 2010 It’s time for the “Rooster’s Call”, as always. Once again nothing has changed and I still suck at this prediction thing. I decided to change it up and let someone else do it for me! The first person that reads this and emails me the top three predictions from each class in the right order by Saturday at 3 pm will win a Roost Clothing Hoodie provided by the guys over at roostclothing.com. The rules are that it has to be in the right order as they place first from last, and it has to be the top three from both classes. All entries must be emailed to me at kyle@mxpmag.com by 3pm on Saturday before the race. If no one is right, I will save the Hoodie and throw out another contest later in the year! That’s all I have this weekend folks. I know it was short but I have some more stuff I’m still digging up for next week’s edition. If anyone is interested in sponsoring this column to help their business get some exposure and some plugs over here at mxpmag.com, send me an email. Don’t forget about the contest for the Roost Hoodie! Until next time, I’m over and out! Kyle Carruthers
