On one of the hottest days, and on one of the roughest tracks in Canada, the KTM Thor Racing Team showed up Ready To Race at the opening round of the CMRC Canadian Motocross Nationals. In the MX1 class, Davi Millsaps and Kaven Benoit shined as they finished the day in 1st and 4th overall. In MX2, Cole Thompson rode strong all day to claim 2nd overall.
With great anticipation, Davi Millsaps lined up for his first race in the 2016 CMRC Motocross Nationals. After a very strong 2nd place finish in the opening moto, Millsaps bolted to the lead in moto two and never looked back. For 35 minutes, he rode flawlessly and took home not only the moto win, but also the overall victory for the day. After the race Davi spoke about his performance, “To come up here and get the win in the opening round is very special. I haven’t raced outdoors for some time so I wasn’t sure how I would feel today. However, my bike was really good and once I got out there I felt great and went for the win.”
In his very first MX1 race, the two-time MX2 Champion Kaven Benoit was admittedly a little nervous prior to the opening moto. This nervousness caused Benoit to race a little tight in moto one and finish in 6th. But when the gate dropped for moto two, fans were able to witness an entirely different Kaven Benoit as he battled numerous other top riders on his KTM 450 SX-F to finish a very impressive 4th. “After the first moto I was really disappointed at myself as I just didn’t ride very well. I couldn’t wait for the second moto and right from the beginning I felt much better. To be able to battle up front was a lot of fun and I can’t wait for round two next weekend.”
For Cole Thompson, the day did not begin the way he would have liked as he tangled with another rider on the opening lap of moto one and was forced to play catch up for the rest of the race. He proved just how determined he is as he battled back to 4th place. In the second and deciding moto, he backed that up with an impressive victory. After two solid motos Cole reflected on his day with the utmost optimism: “I’m satisfied with my results today as you can’t win a championship at round 1 but you can certainly loose it. The goal is to build on this weekend’s performance and come back even stronger at round 2.”
After a very gruelling opening round to the 2016 series, the KTM Thor Racing Team will travel west to beautiful Nanaimo, BC for round two.
