Don't Miss

OUT OF THE GATE: It was a great start to the 2012 motocross race season for Dylan Wright

Equipped with his new stock 2012 Yamaha YZ 125, his FOX gear and EKS Brand goggles, Dylan arrived at the Area 51 Motocross Track in Batavia, New York to take part in the Loretta Lynn AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship Northeast Area Qualifiers on April 28th and 29th, 2012.

On the line with 16 other 125 cc racers in the Schoolboy 1 (12 – 16) class on Saturday, Dylan finished 1st in moto one and 2nd in moto two to clinch an overall 2nd place finish. He swapped moto wins with a 17 year old from Michigan named Christopher Prebula.

In moto one, Dylan got the hole shot and held on to the lead until he reached the checkered flag. In the second moto, he got a 2nd place start and quickly made a move for 1st.  He started to check out when he laid the bike down in a rut. He remounted in approximately 5th place, quickly put himself back into 2nd place, and mounted a charge for the leader. Dylan almost made the pass for the lead several times but had to settle for a 2nd place finish, right on the rear wheel of the first place rider.

On Sunday, Dylan was one of 23 riders lined up at the starting gates for the Schoolboy 2 (13 – 16) class. Competing against fellow 125 cc, 150 cc and 250 cc two-stroke and four-stroke racers, Dylan rode his way to victory in both motos, earning an overall 1st place finish in this class.

In the first moto, Dylan got a decent gate pick and chose to line up to the inside. He got a great jump and rounded the first corner in 3rd place. Riding a very smart race, he displayed patience and strategy by letting the racers settle in before making an outside pass for 2nd place. He then quickly reeled in first. Shadowing the 1st place rider for a short time, he made his move, making a pass stick through a rhythm section. He then proceeded to open up a sizeable lead and continued to gap the field until the checkers.

Moto two went much the same as moto one with a 4th place start, early passes for the lead, and ultimately the moto win.

While Dylan was really pleased to capture the 1st and 2nd place wins in the Schoolboy classes over the weekend, his performance also captured the attention of a number of spectators who were lining the fences to watch the race.

And so … out of the gate for his first races of 2012 … Dylan Wright earned himself a spot in both the Schoolboy1 and Schoolboy 2 classes at the Loretta Lynn Amateur National Motocross Championship Regional Qualifiers set to take place at the Doublin Gap Motocross Park in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania on June 23rd and 24th.
