Cohan Joey Donald is one of the fast, up and coming kids from the east coast. Since Cohan and his family call Fredericton, NB home Cohan spends a lot of time honing his riding skills at the historic Riverglade National track. With the popular dealership Freedom Cycle as one of his sponsors and fellow top east coast rider Konnor Long helping Cohan with riding tips, it won’t be long until we see this kid on the top step of the podium at the Parts Canada TransCan.

MXP: Good Morning Cohan, thank you for taking the time over the holidays to chat with MXP. First off, can you tell us know how old you are and where you call home, please?

CD: Sure, currently I’m eight-years-old and we live in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

That’s a great city, how long have you lived there?

Yes, we like it here. My family and I have lived in Fredericton for eight years.

cohan1What class do you ride and how long have you been riding?

I ride in the 50cc 7-8 class now and have been riding since I was four-years-old. My first bike was a KTM 50 Adventure, I really loved that bike.

It’s great that KTM offers such quality bikes for kids to start riding. Riding in NB must be fun, what are some of your past racing highlights?

I’ve had a lot of great memories over the last few years. However, I would have to say some major highlights would be going high in the air when I cleared the step up at the Riverglade track. Also, this past season I finished first overall in the 2014 CMRC Fall Series, which was awesome. Finally, the last two years we’ve travelled to Walton to race in the Parts Canada TransCan. Racing there has been so much fun and such a great experience.

That’s cool that you and your family make the trek to Walton. Do you have a favourite track Cohan?

My favourite track would definitely be Riverglade, I love the layout and it’s my hometown track.

That track has so much history, you’re lucky to have it as a home track. What is your favourite part of most tracks?

Actually, I’m one of those riders that loves all parts of every track. Jumps, slow turns, fast turns, just about everything really.

If you had to pick one jump that you love what would it be?

Definitely the step-up at Riverglade.

That’s cool that you love to jump! Before the races begin, do you like the mood to be rocking or really calm?

Before I race I like it rocking. I take my Mom’s iPhone and listen to AC/DC Thunderstruck LOUD!

Thunderstruck, that’s a great song. When the 30 second board goes up what is going through your head?

When the 30 second board is up my main focus is to get to try to get that holeshot.

Would you rather holeshot and ride off to victory or would you rather come from behind and win?

I would rather holeshot and win and stay clean, however as long as I cross the finish line in first I guess it doesn’t matter.

Let’s talk about school for a minute. Do your friends at school know you race?

Yes they do, all of my classmates at school know I ride; they think it’s really cool. Even my teachers take an interest in my racing.

Okay, here is the famous question for kids. At school, what is your favourite subject?

My favourite subject at school is Gym class! Is that the answer you wanted (laughs).

cohan2

Every motocross kid loves gym class. I guess it makes sense. Other than riding, what else do you like to do?

When I’m not ripping around on my bike I love to play hockey. So dirt bikes and hockey, that pretty much sums me up.

You’re just a good old Canadian kid Cohan. Okay, final question. Who would you like to thank?

I would like to thank my Mom and Dad, my sister Grace, my Nanny and Puppy for always coming to watch me ride and cheer me on. Also, Freedom Cycle for selling me my bike and sponsoring me, Connor Long, Ryan McKay, Logan Toole, and Brett Young for given me riding tips and meeting me at the start gate to cheer me on.
