MXP: Hey Newf! Talk to us first about your travel plans to Red Bud. How are you and your lovely wife Randi getting there and once there where are you staying?

RL: We flew to Chicago yesterday and then rented a car and from there we made the two-hour trek to Red Bud. We are staying with Ryan Gauld and his wife Amy right at the track so that will be nice not having to leave every day to go to the hotel. We are going to get the full Red Bud experience that’s for sure. We are also parking with a bunch of other Canadians by the sounds of it so it should be a good weekend.

MXP: What are you most excited about for this weekend at Red Bud and the MXON?

RL: I think there is a lot to be excited about but honestly I’m really looking forward to working with Team Canada. I have been to MXON before but just as a fan and having the opportunity to work with Dylan, Ryder and Tyler is going to be great. I believe the team has a great chance of doing well and with a little bit of luck and proper strategy, 2022 could be the best year the team has ever done. The Pit Bike race is going to be an experience for me there is no question and I’m looking forward to having some fun with it. There has been a lot of crap talking and by the sounds of it, there will be over 10k people there to watch it. There is some pressure to perform.

Can the team of Newf, Gauldy, and Quinn Amyotte win the Pit Bike of Nations? Photo by James Lissimore

MXP: Okay, let’s talk predictions. Who wins on Sunday? How does Canada do, and which member of Team Canada is going to carry our team in the Pit Bike of Nations?

RL: How do you bet against the USA? I know they didn’t even make the podium in 2018 at Red Bud but I still think they get it done. Australia is going to be tough with both Lawrence Brothers and Mitch Evans. Like I had mentioned in the previous question I think Canada has a great shot and with some luck (starting with the gate pick selection on Friday) we should have a good result. I think everyone has the expectation of a finish inside the top 10 with the best case being a 6th or 7th. If you ask Gauldy he is Captain Canada for PBON but Quinn will be the guy with the speed. He’s really good on those things and will be at the front. If Quinn can get us a good score then Gauldy and I can just be solid and we should have a chance at the podium. But it’s not going to be easy that’s for sure. There is a lot more teams and effort put into this event since 2018.
