Don't Miss

MXP: Hey Newf! This was supposed to be a big weekend ahead for riders in BC. Not only is it Easter weekend, but it was also the opening round of the 2023 Future West MX Championships in Mission. We hear though, that Mother Nature is not co-operating.

RL: Things are not looking good at all. The weather has taken a turn for the worst, and we’re expected to get 100mm of rain from Thursday to Sunday. The track in Mission got a full rebuild and is already super soft, and this added rain will make it unaidable, especially for any of the small bike classes. It was difficult, but we decided to cancel on Wednesday afternoon as we didn’t see how it would work. It’s a huge bummer as I know everyone was ready and excited, but we felt we made the right decision as a team. You know, there is more behind-the-scenes stuff that some may not think about or know when decisions like this have to be made, and it does piss me off reading comments. However, it is what it is, and most people do trust our decisions are in everyone involved’s best interest.

We have the Big Kahuna this weekend as well up in Kamloops, and the weather looks a lot better. So why not do a 2.5-hour off-road race to start the season? We did this last year, and even though it was extremely tough, it was fun to finish. T-Dags is also back again this year, so that will be cool.

MXP: As you know, this next month is crunch time for our pro riders are they prepare for the opening round of the 2023 Triple Crown Series. Unfortunately, the first top rider to face some adversity is our defending 250 Champion Ryder McNabb, who suffered a broken leg last week. He’ll be out until just before the opening round in early June. What are your thoughts on Ryder’s recovery, and how much does this hurt his title defense in 2023?

RL: It’s a huge bummer for sure, and of course, it’s not ideal, but sometimes this stuff happens. He’s young and will heal fast, there is no question about that, but I think he may come in a bit rusty. But you never know what can happen to the rest of the guys. The off-season is tough to stay healthy as your putting in way more hours which raises the chances of getting hurt. Either way, I’m sure he and the people around him will do whatever it takes to get him 100% as quickly as possible.

MXP: The Monster Energy Supercross Series is back this weekend in Glendale. Who do you like for the win this weekend in the 450SX class?

RL: My gut feeling says Cooper Webb for some reason. The week off probably benefitted lots of guys, but for whatever reason, I think Webb will come out swinging in this final stretch of the series. If you ask me who wins the title though, I would still flip a coin on either Eli or Webb. This is going to be a good month and a bit of racing,
