MXP: Hey Newf! Last weekend, the gate dropped on the opening round of the SMX Playoffs. Overall, what did you think?
RL: I really liked everything about the first round. The track worked out way better than I thought. When was the last time we saw a split lane that was just about equal, and riders used both options? It produced good racing in both classes, and there were places to pass. I think my only complaint would be that the 20-minute mains felt a bit long. Since there are two per class, 15 min might be the magic number. Also, the 65cc class was awesome. Seeing those kids jump the big jumps was really cool to see.
MXP: What are you expecting for this weekend in Chicago? Will the riders be going for it a little more?
RL: I think everyone is going to be a little more ready. No one appeared happy with their bike set up last weekend, as it was much more motocross than everyone thought, so I’m sure everyone will be going to a softer set up in Chicago. This track is longer, which I like. I really felt like the top guys were pushing as much as their set up allowed them. You have to think that both Lawrence Brothers will want a big rebound and get back on top of the podium.

MXP: How are things looking for your Future West event in Revelstoke this weekend?
RL: Things are looking great. We are all excited to go to a new track. The Revy Riders Club has put in a ton of effort, and the track looks great. We haven’t had a race in BC since the end of June, so riders are chomping at the bit to get back at it.
