As the riders of the 2016 Monster Energy Supercross Series gathered inside Ford Field for round 11, all eyes were on Ryan Dungey to see if he could rebound from his late race crash in Toronto a week before. As lap one of the 450SX main event was completed, Dungey was out front and well on his way to victory. However, after a miscue which saw the KTM rider accidentally jump on a red cross flag, Dungey was docked two positions and his win was given to Jason Anderson. Oh yes, there were a few story lines from the Motor City, and this week we’ll let Matt Wellumson’s photos tell the story.
Its great to see riders like Blake Baggett healthy again and back racing. Hopefully his teammate JS7 will be back soon also.
Thankfully Jesse Wentland avoided the carnage behind him.

With a slippery first turn in Detroit, just because you got there first didn’t exactly mean that you came out first. Ryan Dungey demonstrates how to sneak around the inside and turn a so-so start into the lead.

Watching Jason Anderson go through this turn really gives you a glimpse at just how hard packed the Detroit track was.

So far in 2016, Trey Canard has the opening ceremonies and the heat races all figured out. He now just needs to keep his Honda on two wheels during the main events.
When the top riders are stretched out and this far back as they try and skim the whoops, you just know the whoops are deep and spaced far apart.

After grabbing the red plate in Toronto last weekend, Jeremy Martin really made a mess of the main event in Detroit and handed the points lead to Malcolm Stewart.
A good start was all Malcolm Stewart needed to dominate and take the win in the 250SX East class.
After an awful start in the main event, it took Ken Roczen over half the race to get by Weston Peick.
It was great to see Nick Wey back racing in front of his hometown Michigan fans.
Chad Reed takes a good long look at the whoop section during practice. After a hard crash last weekend in Toronto, Reed was back and rode to a pretty uneventful 4th in the main event.
I heard some inside information last weekend that Chad Reed will be back in 2017 for one more season of SX. So thankfully, this wasn’t a wave good-bye in Detroit.
