As the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series made it’s final stop of the year at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Ca, riders Ryan Dungey and Cooper Webb came into the race on a roll. All day at round five Webb and Dungey were the fastest riders and ended up taking pole position in their respective classes. When the night show rolled around Frank Hoppen was on hand to capture it all for MXP. It’s time to go Behind The Lens from Anaheim 3.
Just like at the 2014 Monster Energy Cup back in October, for Anaheim 3 the track builders gave the riders an elevated start at round five.
After four strong rounds Jake Weimer didn’t have a great night at A3 finishing a distant 15th in the main event. He did look great in his 2015 Seven Gear though.
At each round so far in 2015 Cole Seely has been getting stronger and stronger. At A3 Cole rode great to grab the second spot on the podium. This could be a sign of things to come for him.
On a track that was deemed tough to pass on, Eli Tomac refused to give up during the main event and was able to make a late pass on Ken Roczen for third.
Although Austin Politellli could only muster a 19th in the Lites main event, he rode great all day and deserved a better finish.
This photo is for the girls! Tyler Bowers didn’t have a great night in Anaheim, however the former AX Champion took it all in stride.
After winning last weekend in Oakland, Trey Canard once again made a costly mistake in the main event and finished 5th. Here his Honda teammate doesn’t seem to even take notice that Trey is picking himself up.
Vince Friese rode really well at A3 to finish 13th in the main event. Vince looked great all day and seems to be enjoying the 2015 SX series.
Before the restart in the Lites main event, Josh Hansen was running inside the top five and seemed destine for his best finish of the year. After the restart Hansen’s race didn’t go so well and he eventually finished 7th.
I felt bad for Justin Hill at A3. Before the restart he was on his way to a podium finish in the Lites class. On the second start he didn’t do so well and could only charge back to 8th after a crash.
Justin’s brother Josh Hill hadn’t made a main event in three weeks, however at A3 he rode great to finish a very respectable 10th in the 450 main event.
Brett Metcalfe’s 18th in the main event didn’t show just how good he rode at A3. Brett has one more round to go before his 2015 SX season is over and he begins to prepare for his Canadian outdoor season.
There is definitely something up with Davi Millsaps as he once again struggled at A3. After winning his semi-final race Davi would go on to finish 11th in the main event.
Jesse Nelson was very fast at A3 and almost won the main event, unfortunately Cooper Webb was just a little bit faster and Jesse had to settle for 2nd.
In the closing stages of the 450 main event Eli Tomac hounded Ken Roczen in hopes of making the pass for a spot on the podium.
Slowly Blake Baggett is getting better each weekend. At A3 he rode great to finish 7th in the main event.
Chad Reed was very smooth all day and probably deserved a spot on the podium. However, after a bad start in the main event Reed could only charge back to 6th.
And speaking of being on a roll..Ryan Dungey seems to be firing on all cylinders right now and lead almost wire to wire in the main event to take the win.
