Hello friends and race fans, welcome aboard to this week’s commuter version of the highly anticipated launch into the weekend here at MXP Mag via the ‘Friday Flight.’ This is it folks, the Jetwerx crew and everyone else behind bringing the highly successful South of the border AX-Tour to Canadian soil has things well underway in London, Ontario. I will be the first to admit that if I was not so insanely busy with many things, including doing all that I can to ensure that our Future West Canadian Arenacross Series is as successful as possible, I would probably be there. In my experience, the first round of any series is always the best for many reasons, but if you cannot be at Round one, don’t let that stop you from getting out when you can. These series are important to support as best we can for many reasons. In fact, so much so that I am dedicating an entire article in the next issue of MXP Magazine to this subject. As you are reading this I am sure every single individual involved with this series at all levels is experiencing something new and very exciting to them already at this very moment. I can remember my first Arenacross race experience and the variety of emotions that are experienced even before the first gate drop; so many things are different than outdoors. Without going too headlong into details, I remember walking the track at my first Arenacross race thinking, “Wow, that’s it?” Don’t get me wrong friends, it may be short but for fans and riders alike it provides some of the best two wheeled racing action you will ever see. From the outside looking in, these races may seem to go by quickly and not require a lot of fitness or stamina; dead wrong! For a rider who has just given it all with his heart rate as high as it has ever been on dirt bike in the closest confines imaginable, this type of racing requires a physical and mental toughness like no other. That is one of the truly remarkable things about Arenacross; no matter how much you prepare and are ready for the unexpected, get a good start then pretty much anything is possible. As a former racer and now a ravenous race and media person, I know this all too well, and have the highest respect and appreciation for Arenacross racing.

If Arenacross is new to you, go easy. Wherever you line up, remember to breathe, enjoy the moment and make having fun the number one priority. That’s right, fun. Isn’t that what it is all about? There are four of the Arenacross Tour events as well as four Future West Moto Arenacross race weekends in the West scheduled for 2015. These weekends will come and go quickly. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to go and enjoy them. Just think, that is 16 more highly competitive and entertaining gate drops for riders and fans to benefit from right here in “Jolly Old Canada.” You might think that is a bit of a random quotation but it is not. It is, in fact, one from none other than my friend and AMA Supercross rider Adam ‘The Seven Deuce Deuce ‘ Enticknap. That is what Adam called our country while interviewed in a Supercross online ‘Live’ broadcast last year with Jim Holley. A random comment maybe, but to me, however, more of a statement and validation of something I know and deeply believe. We live in a great country and have many things to be fortunate for moving forward in Motocross. These two indoor racing series are a big part of the continuing growth and improvement. I am very much looking forward to watching the events unfold from the Western Fair this weekend in London, Ontario via the ‘Live’ broadcast. Thanks to Valvoline and MXP Mag as well as all others involved. Good luck to all this weekend, and I am sure by Sunday morning there will be no shortage of moto banter on social media, industry websites and beyond. If you need any information on this event, it all can be found at www.arenacrosstour.com, or direct any questions to info@arenacrosstour.ca.
Adam Enticknap, Ross Johnson and Ryan Lockhart will be on hand to teach some riding schools at round one next weekend in Armstrong, BC. photo by Clayton Racicot
So I have mentioned Adam Enticknap and yes he will be in Armstrong for Round one of the Future West Arenacross series when it kicks off next week. Adam is still on the comeback trail from last year’s Supercross crash, but has officially been given the green light and is back on the motorcycle. Adam will help out Ryan Lockhart and Ross Johnson teaching the Arenacross schools at Round one in the small post card perfect farming community of just over 5,000. He will also perform double duty on the microphone with in-house announcer John Wren as well as myself broadcasting ‘Live’ from the event through my Canadian Moto Show platform. Round one of the series will once again have a start outside the arena in exciting mini-Monster Energy Cup fashion. There is also camping available onsite but hookups are limited. Head over to www.futurewestmoto.ca for all you need to know for Round one and more. The weather has been great here in the North Okanagan and next weekend’s forecast looks to be on point for a great series send-off. It has been rather perplexing throughout the whole process building up to the send-off of these two series to get a list of committed riders. I spent most of the day on the phone yesterday and have sent numerous texts out. I will not get too deep here with names but I can tell you that there will be no shortage of top level riders at both events. For the Future West series, both two-time defending Open Class Champion Ross Johnson and defending two-time Dash for Cash Champion Ryan Lockhart will have their work cut out for them in their efforts for a three-peat. These two will look to fend off the likes of Jess Pettis, Brad Nauditt, Chris Howell, Noah McConahay and Adam Enticknap. The AX-Tour will be headlined by the likes of Jacob Hayes, Chris Blose, Cole Thompson, Dylan Wright, Bobby Kiniry and many other top prospects. I can also tell you that the gates will be full in all classes, and that there is enough on the line in the way of dollars, bragging rights and fun to be had; both these series will hit their mark and deliver. It once again is sounding to me like fans of Canadian Motocross are the real winners. Just in time for all the action, this week’s ‘Flight’ has landed, so grab your bag from the overhead compartment along with that Moto Passion and Let’s Go Racing.
Until next ‘Friday Flight,‘ Airmail’ out………………….
