You may have heard the saying – “You’ve got to make hay while the sun shines” I tend to use that one quite frequently, perhaps because of how our industry works. We’re pretty static for a few months over winter, then boom, go time, the sun is shining and its time to go to work.
I am currently in the making hay portion of said saying. New bikes are coming in, riders from all angles are getting out and preparing themselves for the up coming season, and the weather is getting better and better by the day. It’s here.
For a couple weeks now, I’ve had the term “just keep swimming” playing over and over in my head. Yes, you’re correct, its Dory from Finding Nemo. Laugh all you want, which, you probably are, and rightfully so, but man, who would have thought a movie from the end of my childhood would leave the lasting impression it did on me? Some forgetful fish’s tag line is the string I’m grasping to while working away on dirtbikes. Yeah, go ahead, chuckle again…
But, as minimal or lame as you wanna call it, how true is it? Regardless of what you’ve got going on, you have to keep going. The work isn’t going to do itself, and procrastinating is just going to make matters worse. Sometimes I think about a regular job, where you just drive to work, do the job, then go home. Monotonous and simple, but as it turns out that style of work was extremely boring to me. I’ve always fared better when I’m busy, I enjoy it, and I thrive off it. But what is considered too much? The weight of stress affects us all differently and how we manage that depends on many factors. I’d love to get into a stress management discussion, which, I believe could be beneficial for all of us as everyday humans. As well as the stress and the effect of stress on the athletes we look up to. Ever wonder why some guys are just crushing it lately, vs being in a slump? That goes for all sports. It’s all about that mind management and ability to overcome an issue no matter how small or big it is.
However, the mountain of work behind me isn’t getting any smaller as I type. And as you can tell, I’m a metaphor guy, and I enjoy all the sayings… They help guide the unmanned ship upstairs sometimes when the weather gets rough, figuratively speaking. So, long story short – when there aren’t enough hours in the day (another good one) you’ve gotta just keep on keepin’ on! (I am on fire today)
Back to making hay!
