It’s that favourite time of the year for Canadians to throw on that tuxedo of long underwear, sweats, and a plaid shirt to play video games in hibernation. Well, for some this is the case, but not for the athletes who should take this time to get ahead of the competition. For them, it should be the time to go to their gym or head down south. The Mini O’s are just the excuse you need to head to Gatorback in Florida if you want to lengthen the 2012 riding year. You can follow @Gauldy107 to follow this year’s Mini O racing adventure. Something can also be said for the guy who can put his bike away then gets involved with winter activities. That’s the time to build passion all off-season then return with an explosion of motivation to get on the MX bike in the spring.
Back in ’96, I left the CMRC Intermediate season with a few top 3 finishes while getting closer to a big class win, only to leave my bike alone for all the icy winter months to focus on snowboarding. After at least five months off the bike, I returned to Gopher Dunes’ season opener in the spring of ‘97 with a mindset still set back in ’96; I walked away with the win and continued to do so till the yellow plates were removed.
There are many ways in which you can train for next season. From what I have experienced, you can stay on top as long as you continue a progressive mindset in all your activities and cross over to other challenging sports.
Already in progress with a new track design is the Indoor MX facility at Chestermans in Tillsonburg, Ontario. Another year ready to go with no problems! Chestermans has been the first facility known to create a consistent, safe facility for today’s dirt bike rider. With a heated spectator area and a modestly warmed pit area, you can plan to have most of the comforts of a mild day riding.
All you dirt bike and road bike enthusiasts, get ready for the annual Toronto Motorcycle Show. What a great way to see all the new 2013 line ups of motorcycles, hard goods and gear. Meet and greet industry leaders, and probably a few leather clad lady models with black high boots and tight lace. MXP will be on hand with magazines, stickers, a MXP Films video display and some sponsorship advice for the rider looking to increase race support. Also featured this year is the Yamaha Motor Canada Riding Academy for kids, which provides full protective gear, a Yamaha PW50 mini bike, trained instructors and a spectating area for the excited parents to snap photos for Facebook. What a great way to get introduced to the sport!!
Friday night will also offer the ladies a chance to be a part of the “She Rides Night” program that will be full of information and demonstrations to get girls and women more involved in the sport. Please visit www.torontomotorcycleshow.ca for more information.
