Mail It In Friday

We want to start this week off by sending out our condolences to the entire Grey family. Richard, grandfather of National Pro Richard Grey, passed away  last week. He was a good man who loved being at the races and clearly loved his family.

Tomorrow night in Las Vegas marks the final Monster Energy Supercross of 2013. Is it just us or has the season just flown by? While it certainly has been a good one, and there has been some highlights, we wouldn’t exactly call it a great one. With the points chase already decided in the 450SX class, everyone’s focus is on the East and West 250SX classes as both titles are still up for grabs. Check out the Las Vegas track map to see tomorrow night’s battleground.

Even though Chad Reed hasnt had the best Supercross season this year, it wasn’t from lack of trying or not being prepared. Here is a cool, behind the scenes video of his team, TwoTwo Motorsports.

This week we heard from so many Canadians that are heading to Las Vegas this weekend to watch and enjoy everything the City of Entertainment has to offer. Mark Perrin, Aaron Barsanti, Brady Sheren, Denaye Giroux and Ryan Lockhart are just a few of the Canucks that are going. They will no doubt be cheering on Canadian riders Cole Thompson and Nicky Beatty who will be riding the East 250SX class. While Cole has been there before, this will be Beatty’s first trip to Vegas. He sent us this picture before boarding his flight from Detroit. As you can see he looks pretty excited!

In addition to the final round of Supercross, Las Vegas is hosting the final round of Arenacross too. There are a few Canadians down there competing. Ontario KTM rider Preston Masciangleo sent us this photo of where you have to store your bike sometimes when you’re on the road. You can follow his Dad on Twitter for updates all weekend (@mmxmotocross).

Last weekend’s Monster Energy Supercross wasn’t the only cool two wheel event that went on in Salt Lake City, Utah. Check this out and make sure you’re holding on to your chair.

After three consecutive races in Southwestern Ontario, everything is moving East this weekend. Sand Del Lee is hosting their first CMRC event of the year. Here are the SDL details as well as the link for live scoring.

Although there is still a week away from the Riviere Du Loup Arenacross, there is still room for riders to enter. If there are any Pro riders who might want to go to the May 11 race, you can email me at palms@motocrosscanada.ca and I can give you the promoter’s contact info. Here is a video I found from 2010. As you can see it is a great time.

Check out the video below and ride along with Taka during his gold medal run at the Summer X Games from Foz Do Iguacu, Brazil. We just love listening to him giggle and laugh throughout his run.

Happy Birthday to Aaro Klatt. Aaro just completed his first lap of the track this year and turned the big number one last week.  Dad Dusty is already out on his pedal bike and working at getting back to the 2013 Nationals. Klatt is great with the social media. If you are fan of his, make sure you give him a follow on facebook or twitter to keep up with his progress.

Deschambeaut returns to the Monster Energy National tour in 2013. This is a great, sandy track with some big uphill sections, which made it one of the favourites back in the day. Deschmbeault is featured in the new issue of MXP that is just going to print, and talks a bit about the past races there and the 2013 Eastern Canada Amateur National. This photo of the track was posted on their facebook page last week. Below that is a video they posted this year. It gives you a good idea of the layout.

The Brett Metcalfe signing has been pretty low key. Palms (Online editor Chris Pomeroy) is  going to try and catch up with him soon because the series starts in 4 weeks!  Here is a photo of Brett from Pala this week.

Testing time for the National series is in full force. Colton Facciotti has been testing with KTM staffer Joe Skidd of SSS Suspension this week to find the edge he is going to need to clinch the 2013 title.

It is easy to forget how dangerous it can be for track builders. Working long hours in the night in bad conditions can easily lead to accidents. Over the past ten days the world of Motocross sadly lost three people that were tightly linked to Youthstream and the FIM Motocross World Championships.

On the 5th of April, 2013, Si Higgins, the son of the Chairman of ACU Brian Higgins, sadly lost his life doing what he loved the most, which was preparing a motocross track. Only four days later Dina Van Kooten-Hurkens, who had been involved in the organization of the MXGP of The Netherlands in Valkenswaard for many years, also passed away.

Last Friday the paddock received the tragic news that Josep Armengol, who was passionate for Motocross and had always been involved in the construction of the Spanish track of Bellpuig, lost his life while preparing the circuit.

Nice interview with James Marshall over at RacerX. Marshall raced in Canada for a couple of seasons and was a blast to have around. Make sure you take the time to read it HERE

Jolene Van Vugt did Canada proud last weekend at the X-Games in Brazil. HERE is the link  to a cool story about her.
