Call off BOOZE Apocalypse! That was close, wow. The thought of making of no booze on our Queen’s birthday seemed almost too much to bare giving Ontario liquor stores had a record sales day! Oh, delicious beer, you get us every time. MOTOCROSS!

Canadian Nationals are just weeks away. This weekend the AMA kicks off their outdoor season in Hangtown. For 99.9% of us that means sit in front of our Television. MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports announced their TV package this week. Good news for Canadians…

MX Sports Pro Racing and Alli Sports, a division of NBC Sports Group, have announced the telecast schedule for the 2013 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing. Featuring a total of 63 hours of competition from the Nationals, NBC, NBC Sports Network and FUEL TV will combine to showcase live coverage from all 12 rounds of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship this season. In addition, more Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship races will be live streamed than ever before. Coverage begins on Saturday, May 18, at 4 p.m. ET on FUEL TV with the Red Bull Hangtown Motocross Classic in Sacramento, Calif.

In addition to its coverage of each round of the 2013 Nationals, NBC Sports Network will present exclusive programming beyond the motos, including weekly highlight shows following each round, a mid-season recap and a post-season review of both the 250 and 450 Class. NBC will also present live coverage of three rounds, including the Red Bull Budds Creek National, Red Bull RedBud National and the Red Bull Spring Creek National.”We are excited for the upcoming season of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship and our partnership with MX Sports,” said Eric Grilly, President of Alli Sports. “This year’s distribution platform continues to bring motocross to consumers across multiple channels, building on past success with increasing support from Alli and the NBC Sports Group.”

Becoming an integral partner of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship in 2011, FUEL TV will once again return to the Nationals this season. For 2013, FUEL TV brings live coverage of all 12 rounds, bringing eight rounds of Moto 1 coverage and four rounds of Moto 2 coverage to motocross enthusiasts unable to make it to the Nationals in person.

“We are very proud of the broadcast and digital package we’ve put together for this season, both for the television audience and online viewers,” said MX Sports Pro Racing President Davey Coombs. “Motocross is not an easy sport to broadcast, given the duration of each event and the fact that each championship division races two motos, so we are fortunate that we have the ability to spread the programming in order to have comprehensive coverage of every moto from all 12 rounds.  And with our ability to also show all of the races simultaneously online, our fans have more options than ever before to watch Lucas Oil Pro Motocross.”

DIGITAL
In addition to television coverage, Alli Sports will feature a redesigned website and more than 60 hours of online coverage. All races that air on NBC and NBC Sports Network will be live streamed on allisports.com and through NBC Sports Live Extra, the NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, and tablets. The vast majority of races will be live streamed via “TV Everywhere,” the media industry’s effort to make quality content available to authenticated customers both in and out of the home and on multiple platforms.

For desktops, NBC Sports Live Extra can be accessed at NBCSports.com/liveextra. The NBC Sports Live Extra app for mobile devices and tablets is available at the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and on select Android handset and tablet devices within Google Play.

Races airing on:

  • NBC will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBC Sport Live Extra;
  • NBC Sports Network will live stream to PCs, mobile devices and tablets through NBCSports Live Extra, and to the digital platforms of participating cable, satellite, and telco services, via “TV Everywhere,” which is available on an authenticated basis to subscribers of participating MVPDs.

“We are pleased to announce the live streaming of every Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship race on NBC Sports Live Extra and allisports.com this season,” said Rick Cordella, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group. “The redesigned allisports.com will feature more than 60 hours of Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship content, including races and practices.”

INTERNATIONAL
The Nationals will also be simulcast to 104 countries across the globe. The international telecasts will be hosted on eight different networks across the world – ESPN Brasil, ESPN Central and Latin America and Caribbean, Extreme Sports Channel, Fox Sports Australia, Rogers Sportsnet in Canada (Note: It’s really The Score – Rogers bought The Score), Sport 1 in Germany, SuperSport and Duke Marketing. This will bring the most prestigious championship on the planet to over 40 million homes across those continents.

Returning to the booth this season is the longtime duo of veteran announcer Jason Weigandt and three-time AMA Pro Motocross Champion Jeff Emig, who will once again team up to bring event play-by-play and analysis to the viewers at home. Weigandt’s vast knowledge of the sport meshes seamlessly with the years of competitive experience Emig possesses to make them one of the most well-rounded broadcast partnerships in all of motorsports. On the track, Kelli Stavast and Erin Coscerelli will provide the latest breaking news from the pits and the starting gate, while also interviewing riders before and after they hit the track.

One fast rider that won’t be making the trip out west for the opening round is Machine Racing Yamaha’s Kyle Keast. He has opted to just do the rounds in the east.  We all know how much he likes the sand, so you know Keast will be fast at the eastern tracks. In the meantime, Keast is training hard and racing locally in Ontario. He is also giving back to the sport by doing lots away from the track. On Wedsnesday evening, Keast spoke to kids at a local elementary school about just how cool the sport of motocross is. Way to go Kyle and thanks for getting the word out about this awesome sport.

Here is Kyle Keast speaking to kids:

In keeping with the Monster Energy MX Nationals, Derek Schuster will be doing double duty at Nanaimo and Kamloops. Not only will he be the GDR/TLD Team Manager but he will also be replacing Matt Lee as the track builder. All the riders are in very good hands as Derek bring years of experience to the job. If you see Dig a little stressed at Nanaimo, you’ll know why. Please ask him for a hug – he loves hugs.

Also in Nanaimo will be available VIP Pit parking for anyone who is interested.

Attention all MX Fans! There are some special reserved VIP and Prime Pits available for the upcoming Nationals weekend…

Large VIP Pits 1-3 next to the start line are available for $300 each.
Large Prime Pits (4, 5, and 11) are available for $200.
Prime Pits (6-10) are available for $100.

In Ontario this weekend is the big Moto Park Cup at of course at Moto Park in Chatsworth, Ontario. The race is on Saturday and Sunday and there will be fireworks Saturday night as well as a BBQ. The weather looks great so if you’re around, go to Moto Park and enjoy. Owner Iain Hayden will no doubt have the facility in great shape.

Of course the X-Games invade Barcelona, Spain this weekend and one of our favourite girls, Jolene Van Vugt, is there competing in Endurocross. As you can see in this picture, we aren’t the only ones who love here. Good luck Jolene!

We received a text this week from former pro rider and all around good guy Frank Watts. He is a professional pilot now but still finds time to ride and even race. He flew some guys to Boston on Monday night to watch the Leaf game and he said the plane was noisy on the way down but obviously very quiet on the way home. What happened to the Leafs on Monday night? What a collaspe! Anyway, Frank sent this photo of Boeing’s new 787 aircraft that was sitting on the ramp in Boston. If you’re a pilot, this is like looking at a factory bike. Thanks Frank.

We hope everyone has a great weekend and a safe weekend of riding. Here is one final picture of Ryan Dungey and his new red plate for Hangtown at least. That KTM looks sweet!
