Mail It In Friday…who has got the first round?
The Masters Golf Tournament from Augusta, Georgia is the pinnacle golf tournament in the world. It is the Anaheim 1 of Supercross, the Daytona 500 of NASCAR, or the Superbowl of football. You do not have to follow golf to get the idea that it is a big deal.
Rickie Fowler is the son of former AMA national motocross pro Terry Fowler. Terry traveled the motocross nationals throughout the ’80s and passed his love of motocross on to his son, Rickie. Rickie not only shared the love of motocross but at age three picked up his Dad’s golf club. Today Rickie is one of the best in the world. Of course he is still a huge fan of motocross and a rider himself.
On Thursday at the Masters, Rickie had a wild round. He shot a 4-under 68 in a round that included two double-bogeys, an eagle, and six birdies. Great score but a hard way to get there.
Motocrossers love a good dust up when nobody gets hurt but it’s pretty spectacular. Case in point within the video below. Everyone in it walked away from this first corner dust up. Pay special attention to the rider in the top center who is launched over top of another rider. Pretty wild ride for these fellas.
height=350Jacob Piccolo is following in the foot steps of many fast BC riders with strong rides at World Mini GP.
There is a thread going on over at the house that Billy Built, mxforum. The thread is about a couple of kids racing at the World Minis this week at Mesquite MX Park, Mesquite, NV .
According to the thread, BC boy Jacob Piccolo won the 65cc 9-11 stock class Wednesday and 3rd in 65cc Mod Thursday! He was leading his second race until he went down in a turn and finished 3rd.
Casey Keast, who was featured in MXP a few issues back, is racing there as well. Results and live audio can be found here http://worldmini2013.tracksideresults.com/liveresults.asp.
Last week, we caught a little grief from a few people who thought the comment about Jimmy Decottis staring into Dutch women’s navels was inappropriate. Here is thing: we know Dutch women. They are tall, beautiful women for the most part. We have seen Jimmy D, he is a short man. Fact are facts people.
Anywho, Jimmy did make it to the Netherlands. Below is a video of him testing the new ride.
Why do we care about Jimmy so much you ask? Well my friends, there is a Canadian connection. When the Tyler Medaglia deal went kaboom with GDR Troy Lee Honda, one of the riders GDR talked to right away about racing for the team was Jimmy Decottis. Jimmy is a great sand rider with a sweet, sweet Mass. accent so he would have been gold in the Canadian series. Unfortunately, the Kawasaki deal came up and Jimmy went in search of GP stardom.
height=350Speaking of Tyler Medaglia, we texted back and forth with Tyler this week. Last week, he raced against US phenom, Monster Energy Kawasaki golden boy Adam Cianciarulo at Bostwick Creek MX Park. Cianciarulo is one of the most hyped amateurs in recent years, inked to a four year deal with Pro circuit, and has yet to race a professional race. Tyler beat the little rascal both motos so we asked him “Was this a pants to the knees or right down to the ankles, old school K Mart, angry mom spanking?” Tyler declined to answer. We are going to assume the latter.
All kidding aside, that is the question we asked but he really didn’t answer. Tyler did mentioned that he felt it would be easy to take our jobs from us….he may have a point.
Make sure you check out Tdags’ column in the the next issue of MXP and throughout 2013.

Right now, in SWO it is cold. Heck, North of London, Ontario schools are cancelled today because of ice! It’s easy to become soft and think the conditions are too miserable to go racing or riding. This is a good time to think back to the long winter of no racing, of wishing the snow would stop so you could ride and remember it could be worse. It could be Hell’s Gate. ( Just felt a shiver)
With the 2013 race marking the 10th edition of the grueling Hell’s Gate event, Graham Jarvis made short work of the snowy conditions to secure his third consecutive race win at Hell’s Gate. He is a sick, sick man.
Behind him, KTM’s Jonny Walker (who has a kick ass name, but has issues too) repeated his result from 2012 to claim the runner-up position, despite ending the race barely able to stand, while Beta’s Cody Webb became the first US rider ever to finish on the podium. When he was done, he asked anyone willing to shoot him.
height=350In SWO, this is the first weekend of racing and the first Amateur National Qualifier at Gopher Dunes. There is no better place to start. Not only are the Schusters great people and dedicated to motocross, the deep sand can soak up any weather. Hard to believe the year starts in just two days here in SWO.
A few people get grumpy when we wander away from Motocross (Kyle Keast). However skill is skill and as motocrossers we can appreciate the photo below. Stolen from the Monster Energy Facebook page, this picture is of Cory Davis absolutely killing it on his Arctic Cat. Like motorcycles and motocross through the ’70s, snowmobiles and the riders have gone through a similar evolution over the last 15 years – thanks in big part to Blair Morgan.
If you hit up the pulpmx or Transworldmx sites, both have some cool photo reports featuring 2014 Honda and Yamaha bikes in action. For M.I.I.F, we give you them racing. YES! Round one of the Japanese Super Terrific Happy Hour National Motocross Championships (we made the name up) from HSR KYUSHU, Kumamoto (we didn’t make that name up)!
TSN Sportscenter finished today with the top 10 Beverage moments. This one didn’t make it but should have. In 1988, while leading the Namur 500cc World GP, Hakan Carlqvist stopped to chug a beer.
