Matrix Concepts Canada Presents 3 Q’s With Ryan Lockhart

The Newf talks this week about the Eli and Jett show, Jess Pettis working with Ryno and the war for four!

3 Q’s With Ryan Lockhart

MXP: After a week off the Monster Energy Supercross Series resumes this weekend in St Louis. Do you think we’re going to see anything different or is it going to continue to be the Eli Tomac and Jett Lawrence show?

RL: I think it would be pretty hard to argue that it would be any different. Both of those guys are on a roll that’s for sure and you have to think both have winning a championship on their minds with things getting close to the end. I would have thought that Eli would be riding pretty cautious in Seattle but he smoked everyone. You know some of the riders have to already be thinking about outdoors as their championship is pretty much over and I feel these last few rounds in the 450 class will be pretty boring. I am looking forward to the East/West showdowns coming up as I think we all want to see Jett and Craig go head to head. But then again, perhaps they won’t even want to battle with each other as they also have a possible championship to think about.

MXP: Last week it was reported that Jess Pettis has been doing some work with Ryan Hughes out in California. Do you think Ryno’s council will help Pettis with his riding and with his racecraft?

RL: Well to be honest I felt like this was a bit of a surprise as Jess has connections at Baker’s Factory but I’m sure Jess made the decision based on what he needs. I personally think Ryan Hughes is a complete Kook. Yes, I do agree with what he says about body position and whatnot, but the fact he goes on and on about everything makes him look like a complete idiot in my opinion. Now of course these words coming out of my mouth are directed towards him and his uneducated opinion of neck braces. The comparison that he uses is from over 15 years ago and things have changed Ryno, just like bikes and the Ryno Power that you sell to the same customer that I try and sell neck braces to. When he goes on his social media or other media outlet and bashes braces it personally affects the money that I try and make to support my family. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion but there is a different way to get that message across.

The sad part is people think he’s a hero or some sort of influencer. I tried Ryno Power once and it gave me extreme diarrhea and I ended up in the hospital. The stuff he’s saying is the same stuff that I just said about Ryno Power. Anyways little off-topic as far as Pettis goes and I hope he can help him with whatever Jess thinks he needs. But Ryan Hughes should just continue living off the land and his success from the 90s.

MXP: Also last week, the GDR Honda Team and Interlaced Productions released their new video “The War for Four” which documents the team’s 2021 Triple Crown Series. You were part of that team last year as you were Ryder McNabb’s mechanic. What did you think of this video?

RL: It was a really cool project that they put together. We as fans of Canadian Motocross don’t get to see a lot of the behind-the-scenes stuff and the struggles that go into winning a championship. I felt like they did a good job showing the emotion from the riders as well as how bad we all want to win. It’s awesome to be part of a team that really thrives on winning but can also turn things around when things are not going well. Hopefully, GDR continues to pump content out like this throughout 2022. The only thing I was bummed about is it didn’t have any shots of me throwing pit boards in the mechanic’s area. Maybe next time.
