Hello everyone and welcome to the 49th edition of the Monday Maniac. I’m a little slow this morning after spending the last four days in downtown Toronto at the Toronto Motorcycle Show. It was the very last event of the 2012 season for any two wheeled motorsports fan. I’m not a huge fan of these shows for one simple reason: standing. Being on your feet for 30 plus hours really seems to take its toll on a fella. When I finally did reach my house last night my legs below the knee felt like James Caan’s in the movie “Misery” where Kathy Bates beats his legs with a sledge hammer. Okay, maybe a little extreme but holy crapola did they hurt. As soon as I hit the couch the wild dreams of never having to do that show again were swirling through my head. Only bad thing was they were dreams. To me, shows for MXP are a waste but I guess that’s a one sided statement because all I did was stand around and bench race with all the motocross race fans that came by. There were a lot this weekend which made the show more tolerable. Then there are always the goofs that want to share stories of past days of being a pit warrior/slash pro motocrosser, or the guy that comes by with a briefcase that owns some business thinking we could help him out. Those are the times when I put a smile on and picture ice cream, cheez wiz, and an endless supply of Dad’s cookies, just a few things that top my all time love list. Hahaha Either that or I always just drift off to some remote motocross area where goofs don’t get a pass. Yes, that is the show weekend for this guy but there was some productive stuff that went on as well.
This is coming back. Brappity brap brap!!!
On Saturday about eight of us that are very close inside the industry sat down at a round table and discussed plans/changes for 2013 National season. There was also the Ontario promoters meeting but I was not a part of that. The meeting I was part of was to go over ideas that people had submitted over the past month or so that could affect the Monster Energy Motocross Nationals. The first and I think the best thing that came from the meeting is the new two-stroke rule. For all you old school racers that just can’t become a fan of the four-stroke then 2013 will be the year you come back to racing. For the MX2 class a 250 two-stroke bike will be allowed to be raced by anybody, not just Intermediates. This to me is super cool. If you think that this will dominate the race scene, then give your head a shake. Yes, these bikes have considerably more HP but the rider that throws the leg over these babies will have to know how to use the extra HPs to their advantage. It takes a way better rider to be fast on a two-stroke than a four-stroke. Currently, only Yamaha and KTM make two-strokes so that’s a plus for them. I really think this is a great idea. In a perfect world this will help sell a few more bikes at any KTM or Yamaha dealer. This will gives privateers a better chance to do more nationals cause they can make a competitive two-stroke for way cheaper than a 250F. The last thing that I think will help is maybe bring back some old school guys that are ages 28 and up to maybe purchase a bike and race a national again because they can now race a bike the grew up on. I still race steady and am already tossing the idea around my pea brain of getting a Yamaha two banger, getting Bondi to give all the ponies I need and racing Gopher Dunes (I love the sand). It could be really fun, and for a guy like me I am looking for fun things to do now for racing. I bet I’m not the only one.
We released our last issue of 2012 this weekend at the show and we received great responses. There are many good stories in there of some great people that are involved or racing in the sport. Those should be hitting mailboxes this week for everybody that didn’t make the show. WWe don’t run the post office so it could be next week that you see this issue, but nerveless it’s on its way to you if you are a subscriber. We also released information about the third member of the KTM Canada. There is currently somebody looking for a job so things got a little interesting to close out the 2012 season.
Alyshia (left) and Dana (right) made the weekend that much easier at the show for MXP, and all its visitors
To end this baby off I want to make sure you all realize that you have about 24 hours to go till the Matrix 1.7 Cleaning Solutions contest ends. Click HERE to get the info. I also want too announce the winner of the Ride 100% contest: John Bowman of BC took home the prize package after a random draw was needed after so many correct responses. Thanks and congrats to John Bowman. The Matrix Contest ends tomorrow and then the Atlas Brace will start.
Here Courtney Bowman, daughter of John is all smiles after her Dad won the Ride100% Contest last week. Thanks for the support guys and Merry Christmas
Congrats to Harrison for winning the Parts Canada/ MXP Subscription contest at the Toronto Motorcycle show. He’s now the owner of a Carbon Core Thor Helmet
