New Product Review- FOX MX V3 Helmet

Over the past few years we’ve seen a number of innovative products specifically designed to improved every rider’s safety and in the event of a crash, assist them in avoiding serious injuries. The all-new Fox V3 Helmet is most certainly one of these exciting new products. With its Multi Composite Shell design, the new Fox V3 Helmet combines the best of both comfort and safety. This new helmet also features Fox patented Magnetic Visor Release System (MVRS) which keeps your visor in place while you ride but detaches in the event of a crash. However, combined with all of these amazing features, the Fox V3 has incorporated a breakthrough Fluid Inside technology. Here is the official description of this new technology directly from Fox Racing:

DESIGNED TO MIMIC YOUR BODY’S NATURAL BRAIN PROTECTION SYSTEM

Based on extensive scientific research, Fluid Inside® is engineered to enhance your helmet’s ability to protect your brain by mimicking Cerebral Spinal Fluid (CSF) – your body’s natural protection.

The V3 incorporates a matrix of Fluid pods oriented around the head and attached to the helmet interior. By precisely decoupling or “floating” the helmet on the head, each Fluid pod matrix acts like CSF (Cerebral Spinal Fluid) to independently and simultaneously manage the linear and rotational forces acting on soft brain tissue.”

Features:

New ‘Fluid Inside” design that helps manage the linear and rotational forces acting on soft brain tissue

Magnetic Visor Release System (MVRS)

Dual-density verizorb liner which is meant to improve protection by spreading the forces of impact across a larger area.

Patent-Pending chin bar/ eye port CAGE

4 shell and EPS sizes for best fit in class

Injected mesh vent screens for maximum ventilation and air flow

Removable/ washable X-Static comfort liner and cheek pads

In an age where head injuries have unfortunately become such a big part of our sport, a good helmet is so very important. With four shell sizes, consumers will be able to find the perfect fit regardless of their head size. I for one find this to be an important feature as I do have an odd shaped head. From the new Fluid Inside design to the plethora of other new features, this new Fox V3 helmet is one of the breakthrough products of our industry. With all of the features on this innovative new Fox V3 helmet, I was obviously extremely excited to try it out on the track. Again, I do have an odd shaped head, so in the past finding a helmet that fits me properly has been difficult. From the moment I slid this new helmet on my head it felt very comfortable in all areas. It fit over my head well and the new cheek pads helped to make the helmet feel secure. When it comes to a product such as a helmet, I’ve never minded sacrificing protection over a little bit of comfort. However, with this new Fox V3 Helmet I didn’t have to compromise either, as it fit great and obviously the new features make this one of the safest helmets on the market. The strap was easy to do up, and when I put my goggles on, they felt comfortable and the goggles fit great around my face. As I headed out on the track my initial thoughts were very positive.

Once on the track the first thing I noticed about the new Fox V3 was the ventilation. With multiple vents throughout the helmet, I could actually feel the air flowing around my head. On this day the weather was a little on the cool side so the fresh air inside the helmet was quite evident. From the fit and the feel of this helmet, everything felt great as I made my way around the track. This new version of the V3 Helmet feels so much lighter than they old model and trust me, you really do notice it after a few laps. The new shell also feels more streamlined, and with the slightly larger eye cage, the vision out of the new Fox V3 is outstanding. With the ultimate test of any helmet, being when you crash, I thankfully didn’t get to test that part out. There wasn’t one thing that I didn’t like about this new Fox V3 and I’m definitely looking forward to doing some durability testing with this exciting new helmet in the coming months. As someone who has suffered more than one major concussion in my lifetime, I applaud any company that is trying to make our sport safer and reduce head injuries. With multiple sizes, colour combinations and a price point under $600, you cannot go wrong with this new helmet from Fox Racing.
