With nervous anticipation, Dylan Wright lined up next to 8 of Canada’s professional motocross racers in the ProAm Class at this past weekend’s MX101 races held at the Sand Del Lee Motocross Park. How exciting and intimidating it must be to approach and pack the gate against the racers you have looked up to and have inspired you throughout your amateur career.
While Wright participated in two Pro-Am races at the end of the 2012 motocross season, it was different for this 15-year old racer this time around. Why? Because he intends to take part in all five races of the Eastern rounds of the professional race circuit this year. While Dylan ranked among the top 100 professional motocross racers in Canada after acquiring a few pro points in 2012, earning him pro number 84, he is not yet 16 years old and so remains an amateur intermediate rider for 2013.
He dominated the intermediate classes on the weekend, earning first place finishes in his motos both Saturday and Sunday, solidly confirming him as one of three top Eastern Ontario motocross racers in the MX1, MX2 and MX3 Intermediate classes for the 22nd Annual Parts Canada TransCan Canadian Motocross Grand National Championships in Walton, Ontario to take place in August.
He also proved that he can hold his own against Canada’s pros. Sporting bright FOX gear and EKS brand goggles, Wright twisted the throttle of his YZ250 two-stroke to earn him a 5th overall finish in the Pro-Am class on May 25th and a 6th place finish in the class on Sunday. Spectators cheered Dylan on as he made his 2-stroke sing and worked his butt off to keep pace with the pros … many of which were on their 450s. Based on his lap times, it should make for a pretty exciting pro MX2 class. Wright should be in the mix.
