Royal Distributing Presents Young And On The Rise- Zachary Owczarzy

Words and Photos by Carrie Brown

Zachary Owczarzy is a very talented young rider from Woodstock, Ontario. Even though he’s only nine-years-old and has only been racing for a short time, he has already visited the podium numerous times. Zackary is definitely moving forward to becoming a future star in Canadian Motocross.

MXP: Hey Zachary, thanks for chatting with us today. Can you please tell us what kind of bike you ride and what number you currently run?

I ride a KX65 and recently I got a KX85. My number is 6 and hopefully I can race my new KX85 next season.

MXP: Where have you done most of your racing this season?

I am a member of the Thames Valley Riders where in the Spring I won second place in the 65B class, and in the fall series I finished third in the 65A class. I also raced in the Moto Park Cup races, the Rockstar Triple Crown AX in Barrie back in the Spring, and the Supercross event at Delaware Speedway last month.

MXP: What did you think of the Delaware SX track? Did do you like it?

The Delaware SX was amazing. It was also kind of hard but it was fun and challenging at the same time. I learned a lot, and having the crowd cheer me on at the main event under the lights was unbelievable. I finished third overall; it was a great experience. I wanted to race at the Hamilton SX, but unfortunately the class is full so I won’t be racing.

MXP: Do you have a favourite track that you like riding?

I really don’t have a favourite track that really stands out. I like all sorts of tracks. Gore Rd MX track is fun, I always ride there because it’s close to home. Also, Track 15 is a great place to practice and it’s also close to home.

MXP: Who is your favourite rider and why?

My favourite of course is Eli Tomac because he’s fast and he rides a Kawasaki

MXP: Eli Tomac is fun to watch and he’s a great role model for young riders. Is there a Canadian rider that you look up to, and why?

Well, of course my favourite Canadian is Colton Facciotti because he’s great on and off the track, and he’s fast. Hopefully one day I’ll be as fast as him. I see him sometimes at my local practice tracks and he’s always nice to me.

MXP: So, you have only been riding for few years; are there any big accomplishments you have achieved?

I have won a lot of medals and trophies in racing especially with Thames Valley Riders, but my best award was winning the overall in the 65cc Beginner class at the 2018 Moto Park Cup Series. That was so fun racing four rounds and coming out on top.

MXP: The 2018 season is almost done, were there any goals you wanted to achieve and what are your future goals?

My goal this year was to win the 65A class at Thames Valley Riders, but unfortunately I didn’t achieve this from missing races due to the weather. However, I worked hard and had a lot fun this year, so that’s the main thing.

My 2019 goals are to finally win a series. I have won individual races and have finished second and third overall in a series, but I haven’t won a championship. I want to train hard and get faster, and with any luck I’ll get that first place trophy. Plus, I want to race my 85cc next season.

MXP: What is your favourite part about going to the races?

Well, I’m not really sure. I love everything about racing, from the camping, to hanging out with my friends, to getting ready to race, to getting the holeshot, and just racing to the finish line. It’s just an amazing feeling to race and hopefully win a trophy at the end.

MXP: What do you like to do when you’re not racing?

I enjoy riding my dirt bike, riding with my friends and also playing video games. I also like to ride my scooter at our local skate park in Woodstock.

MXP: Okay, final question. Who would you like to thank?

I’d like to thank my family, all my friends and of course my sponsors: Shaye Services, Exquit Ink and Hooligan Brigade for helping me and for all the support they provide. I definitely wouldn’t be racing without their support.

Zachary is a very determined young rider with big goals and big dreams, and definitely has the drive to achieve his future goals. Zachary has a bright future ahead of him in Canadian Motocross. We’re looking forward to seeing him on the track and the podium again in the near the future.
