Busy Days

I was able to get away and take some time off from my busy life to do nothing this past weekend. Boy did I need it! These last few months have been extremely busy, so putting everything on pause once in a while keeps me from burning out when we hit the busiest months in May and June in the racing world. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter long weekend and are beginning to prepare yourselves for a summer filled with many adventures. I sure am!

Spring is here and local provincial races are just around the corner, if not have already started. This week marked the ten week countdown to our CMRC Western Canadian Women’s Nationals, so we figured we would give our top ten girls in the west some loving and post them on our website each week until the first round in Kamloops, British Columbia on June 4th. You can find our number ten rider for the 2016 west season, Danika White, herehttp://www.cdnwmx.com/#!Ten-Week-Countdown-for-the-West-CDNWMX-National-Series-10/c1iu8/56f1ab290cf2d94fab19bc24 on our blog.

More exciting news these past few weeks with our western series is the filling up of our riding schools. The Calgary school is now completely full, but we still have spots left for the Kamloops and Regina locations. So if you haven’t done so and are interested, head on over to our website http://www.cdnwmx.com/#!riding-schools/c1h3c  to confirm your spot. You won’t want to miss out! We also got word that the east will be having a school, so please stay tuned for more information on that coming soon.

These last few weeks have also been good for confirming sponsors and it looks like the east and west series will have a very well rounded amount of support this year, so that is exciting! One sponsor in particular for the west series, Gibson Tyre Technology, will be sponsoring the Hard Charger Award that will be awarded at each round in the west. Be sure to check their tires out as they have some of the best tires in the industry.

Another awesome west sponsor to come on board for this year is a local business that goes by the name Diamonds and Dirt Clothing Co. (D&D). You can check them out here https://www.facebook.com/Diamonds-and-Dirt-Clothing-Co-291902384204301/timeline

The owner and operator, Jenna Cotter, has been in the motocross industry since she was seven, riding a Honda 50 that her brother and her shared. She started racing later at the age of 18. “My very first race was in the states at Hennegan motocross track. It was one of the biggest rushes of my life. From there I have never really stopped racing.” Now, Jenna only competes at a few races as she has a two-year-old son, Banks, who has a little electric bike. Jenna believes he will be the next little ripper in the motocross world. With her motivation and dedication in the industry, I wouldn’t doubt it.

Jenna started her business in November of 2010 while she was out in camp dreaming of what she wanted to do in life. She started processing how she was going to start it, afford it, and make it happen. She saved up her money, sold her truck, and bought everything she needed to start her clothing line. She ordered hats, stickers, and decals to start getting the name out there. Jenna says she has always loved fashion, drawing, and designing. She is definitely a creative one and surprisingly enough, a lot of people were really into her style. Jenna explains the beginning of her business out in camp. “When I was out in camp drawing on all my work gear, from hardhats to rubber boots to leather gloves to lunch boxes, people were always asking me to put my stamp on their stuff. It was sweet! My friends and family started letting me design things on their dirt bikes, gear bags, helmets, etc. It was getting a little out of hand! So it’s a good thing I got into screen printing and designing decals people could wear or slap on their stuff.”

Where she got the name is something that really stuck with me. She told me that there wasn’t a lot of thought into it. It came pretty natural to her and it is very fitting for what she is about. “Diamonds are created under pressure, they are beautiful, strong, and last forever. To me, the name diamonds represents the strength, beauty, and endurance it takes to be an athlete and for any human being trying to get through life. You need to be strong and shine bright. Eventually all the pressure will make you more valuable. Dirt represents every sport or hobby I am into. On a deeper level, there is a saying that rings true… If you dig you will find dirt, dig a little deeper you will find diamonds.” So there you have it, Diamonds and Dirt, something that definitely defines our CDNWMX Series as well, which is exactly why we are proud to have her on board!

Jenna has just recently moved to Kamloops, BC, so she has been a little scattered with her line. As soon as she gets her stuff out of storage and into a proper place to set up, you will be able to obtain more of her masterpieces. She is also hoping to get it in a few motocross shops in Kamloops. Until then, she is getting the guys at Sign Cellar to print her clothing and they have also been making all the rad decals for D&D. She says you can go to her Facebook page and order stuff from her, plus she will also be at the tracks selling stuff under the D&D tent this summer.

Her passion for motocross and fashion is definitely evident. “The thing that fuels me most is seeing people I know and people I don’t know rocking my designs. They love them as much as I do! It’s a really cool feeling! It puts a big smile on my face every time.”

I asked her if she could give advice to women in the motocross and business industry, what would it be? Jenna stated the following, “The advice I would give for women in motocross and business would be to practice, practice, practice. Live it every day! Train your body for what you are wanting to accomplish, whether it be swimming, motocross, snowboarding, or even business. Set goals and reach them. Then set higher goals and keep moving and growing! Expand your mind, learn from people who inspire you, motivate and encourage you. Fuel your heart and soul with whatever you are passionate about. Sink everything you have into what makes you proud, makes your heart pound, makes you smile, and what makes you feel happy to be alive!”

Jenna also has a list of those she would like to thank. “A big thank you to the real people in my life that have been there through good times and bad times just the same! You know who you are. My Dad for showing me what’s important in life, helping me shrug off and laugh about what’s not important, and thanks for being my rock! And to all the awesome people supporting and representing my line, you guys motivate me to keep slanging rad threads for you all! I’m grateful for the encouragement, support, and money you keep spending so I can keep D&D fresh!”

So there you have it folks. Each week we see more improvements being made for our 2016 season and I couldn’t be happier with how it is going to look. Stay tuned for more exciting news!
