With the expectation of having less numbers on the gate, due to having the round on the island, we were still able to have a successful round out at The Wastelands MX Track with 22 riders. With the track having lots of jumps, we were satisfied with the number because of all the lapping that goes on with our top girls. The weather brought some rain on Friday making for perfect track conditions Saturday morning. Talking to a few girls before the first practice, many were a little uneasy about all the doubles that were present. The girls were able to get in a 12 minute practice and things were already running smoother than they were the previous weekend.
Our moto one board guy, JSR, walked across the line as we were starting on time. Our RTR Performance Holeshot winner went out to Danika White, who proceeded to scream, she said, as she realized just how fast she was out of the gate. Sara King and Shelby Turner quickly made passes into first and second respectively. Shelby Turner tried making the pass on Sara but then missed a double where Sara could continue her lead. Shelby followed closely behind, with the rest of the pack following, before she fell in a corner. Brittany Danyluk also fell in a corner right after, leaving Dominique Daffe an open spot into second place, with Lexi Pechout behind her. Shelby Turner eventually was able to make some ground and put herself back into second, with Brittany following behind. Lexi Pechout had a nasty crash on a jump that put her head right into mud, but luckily was able to walk away from it and finish the race. Kristin Tse and Jamie Munro were both able to put in a solid moto, battling throughout it. Jamie said she was pleased with how many jumps she was able to figure out this year, as that is her main goal in Nanaimo every time she rides there. The girls behind them like Madi Watt, Kate Lees, Courtney Stelter, Danika White, and Tamala Whiteside weren’t far off the pace and were also putting in some solid laps battling back and forth. These girls continue to amaze us each weekend and are always full of surprises. Top 10 by the end of the moto went as Sara King on top, Shelby Turner second, Brittany Danyluk third, Dominique Daffe fourth, Kristin Tse fifth, Jamie Munro sixth, Madi Watt seventh, Kate Lees eight, Courtney Stelter ninth, and Danika White tenth with Tamala Whiteside just missing the top ten.

Moto two brought Tyler Medaglia and his mechanic out for the moto two and thirty second board across the line. The RTR Performance Holeshot winner in the second moto went to Sara King, who has continued to nail the cement starts. Again, Shelby Turner and Sara began to make things interesting on the first lap, swapping positions back and forth. With Shelby Turner washing out on the first lap and pushing Sara off the track into flaggers with her bike, Brittany Danyluk pushed herself into the lead. However, she also found herself on the ground a few corners later. Sara proceeded to get back on track and put her head down with minimal mistakes. This would eventually lead her to a first overall for the day. Shelby and Lexi battled throughout the moto, but with Shelby hitting all the doubles, she was able to lock second overall. With Lexi’s 12-3 finishes, she would end up fifth overall. Brittany has the speed to be up with Shelby and Sara, she just has to find her groove and keep it on two wheels. She ended up third overall for the day. Dominique Daffe has continued to impress us with her speed and jumping; consistency got her fourth overall for the day and third overall in the series with two rounds left to go. The next group after that including Madi Watt, Kate Lees, Jamie Munro, Courtney Stelter, and Kristin Tse all have the speed to improve on their finishes, which should make for some interesting racing these last few rounds. Girls like Tamala Whiteside, Danika White, Jamie Routley, and Zoey Shamley also have been potential top 10 riders who will definitely add to the mix. Going through most of the girls’ social media posts, many aren’t satisfied with their results and will be going into the final two rounds with their heads down, ready to prove what they know they are capable of. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us!
Points leader Sara King styled her way around the Supercross like Nanaimo track like a pro. Her 1-1 moto score obviously gave Sara the dominate overall win and no doubt alot of confidence heading into round three. Photo by James Lissimore
Madi Watt was our Gibson Tyre Hard Charger Award winner who has been struggling with starts and bad luck, but never seems to quit and ends up making her way through the pack each and every weekend. Keep up the good work Madi, your hard work and perseverance will get you far.
A shout out to Kassie Boone for helping blue flag both motos alongside the referees. Your time is greatly appreciated and we hope to have you out in the west again soon with a bike!
