Success at the Orange Crush Adventure Rally

3 riders per team

Press Information 9/29/2014

September 5th marked the date of the inaugural Orange Crush Adventure Rally. This year was yet again a tremendous success, with an astounding 150 competitors. The Orange Crush Rally began at SRA (Saint Roch De L’Achigan, Quebec) where riders rode their adventure and dual purpose motorcycles Friday morning to the town of Parent, Quebec where they would rest for the evening to later conclude riding in La Tuque, Quebec Saturday afternoon.

The route was pre-established and was comprised of road/offroad and trail sections. Groups of riders were judged based on their navigation skills per section of the course. Riders partaking in the Orange Crush had to not only withstand the treacherous conditions, but had to navigate using motorcycle roadbooks. Throughout the ride there were various “Special” sections where a rider’s ability was truly tested, these “Special” sections consisted of steep hills, sand sections and tight single track. The Rally took extreme precautionary measures by outfitting every participant and volunteer with Spot GPS tracking systems. At all times everyone’s whereabouts were observed via satellite/computer and were recorded.

The Orange Crush Adventure Rally was a great proving ground for the newly developed KTM 1190 Adventure and Adventure R motorcycles. The Rally consisted of various levels of terrain which were easily traversed aboard the 1190. The 1190 shined in all sections of the Rally Course demonstrated by rider/participant Jean-Philippe Trépanier, who finished 2nd out of 150 competitors aboard his KTM1190 Adventure R. The most common motorcycle among participants proved to be KTM’s 1190. Therefore one can conclude that among adventure riders, the KTM is not only the bike of choice but is a true contender.

This year’s Orange Crush Adventure Rally saw a fluctuation between sunny and cloudy skies. The rain held back for the majority of the rally. Once the ride was all said and done. Participants, sponsors, spectators and volunteers gathered at the base of the local La Tuque ski-hill to partake in the post rally festivities, which consisted of a dinner party, two live bands, giveaways and the awards ceremony. The ambiance was fantastic as two exceptional bands played live music and a large fire pit kept everyone warm during the chilly evening. Food was provided by a local restaurant and consisted of a wide array of culinary delights, as well as meat prepared in a smoker or as the locals refer to it, as a “Meshwi”.

Event Organizers Marc Fontaine and Dave Renouf successfully put on an exceptional adventure rally for the wide array of riders who travelled great lengths to participate. Not only was the event successful but all riders were able to finish the rally without serious injury. Thanks must be given to all event sponsors, especially Air Medic, the paramedics, Spot and KTM mechanics. It must be noted that special mention was given during the awards ceremony to one rider who made the trek all the way from France.
