It’s hard to put into words what Wally Levy meant to the sport of motocross, not just in his native British Columbia, but right across Canada. If you were lucky enough to have met Wally, then you no doubt like him instantly, as he just had one of those cheerful and likeable personalities. Although we lost Wally yesterday, his memory and the contributions he made to our sport will live on forever. RIP Wally! You were a beauty and you will be missed. In closing, we’d like to share some touching words by Wally’s close friend Brent Worrall:
“October 26th, 2023 – R.I.P Wally Levy
I was at an appointment this afternoon in Kelowna with my therapist, and felt compelled to check my phone. There was a message from Wally’s sister Anny. (Anny I thank you) I dropped my phone and broke down in tears.
Anny Horton, Bob Levy, Betty Levy, Henry, Cheryl Levy, Tyler, and the entire Levy family, I love you all, and am sending prayers that God will give you the strength needed moving forward.
Wally, you were my big brother as a kid, and always did everything, and anything you could for me, to make me stronger and faster!
You were, and will always be my Hero. I do not believe I would have ever won a national motocross title without you.
Staying with you and your family, traveling to the races across our beautiful country, (both of us seeing Terry Fox on his Marathon of Hope in 1980).
To you coming to my rescue when I deaked out of the house late one night while staying with you training, and my truck broke down in Abbottsford, chasing girls..
You driving my 67 Ford truck back to your place with broken clutch linkage, while I drove Cheryl’s 240z back to your place, frying out the half engaged e brake in the process!
To having to drive your van to the top of the Diamond Head jump at Little Rock Raceway, while you and other students helped immobilize the poor lad who broke his femur at your Motocross school.
To driving down the 401 through Toronto with the ‘pecker nose’ glasses we bought at the novelty store in Quebec.. You were and will always be the big brother that I never had.
To re-connect and spend time with you and your family in the later years, was a gift, and a blessing that I will cherish forever!!
To broadcasting races live trackside, to the segments we did on the history of our sport on the Canadian Moto Show.. The Kamloops National.. et all..
I will always carry each and every precious moment that we shared, in a special place in my heart.
Your one of a kind character, kindness and selflessness will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know you.
Wally, I never had a chance to tell you this, but the driving skills you taught me on race road trips through the Fraser Canyon (before I was old enough to drive)
I think about every time I cross the center line on my Hand Cycle.
Until we meet again, I love you my friend!!
Brent”
