THE MONSTER ENERGY KAWASAKI PRO CIRCUIT TEAM WRAPS UP THE 2020 MX SERIES ON A HIGH NOTE

After a last-minute change to the schedule, the Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit racing team lined-up once again at the Sand Del Lee MX Park for the final round of the 2020 MX Tour Canadian Championship. With a dry playground for the first time in over a month, Matt Goerke, Tyler Medaglia & Marshal Weltin were able to put their Kawasakis on the podium over the weekend and each concluded their 2020 racing season with top-3 overall results. Following their great efforts through the 5-round series, the team would also like to highlight the impressive championship results for all three riders:

Matt Goerke – 2nd in the 450 MX Championship
Marshal Weltin – 2nd in the 250 MX Championship
Tyler Medaglia – 4th in the 450 MX Championship
Just before the weekend started, multi-time 450 MX Canadian Champion, Matt Goerke, announced that Sand Del Lee would be his final career MX race. With that being said, Matt took the occasion to make his last motocross race weekend, one of the best of 2020. In the first moto, Matt passed the green flag in 6th place, but didn’t wait long before making some passes, sending him to 3rd place early on and finally crossing the finish line in 2nd place. For Sunday’s opening moto, Matt and teammate, Tyler Medaglia, both had a good start and went on to fight over 2nd position for most of the moto. Goerke won the battle, adding a second podium finish to his weekend. Matt concluded round 5 with a 4th place finish in the 3rd moto, giving him a 2nd place overall on the day as well as a well-deserved 2nd place finish in the 2020 450 MX Tour Championship. Matt will be back for two more races (SX Tour) before officially retiring from professional racing. The whole team would like to congratulate Matt on a great career and wish him a happy and relax retirement.
“We were able to wrap up the season on a high-note with a podium and a 2nd place in the championship and I would like to thank the whole team for their support. It will be weird not being with the Canadian crew anymore, but I am looking forward to my first off weekend at home. Thank you to everyone who have been in my corner since Day-1. Hopefully our paths will cross again!” – Matt Goerke

In the 250 class, with a lot of pressure and the championship still in sight, Marshal Weltin was ready to line-up for the final 3 motos of the 2020 season. With a top-5 start in the first race, Marshal pushed for all 15 laps and after some back and forth, was able to get the checkered flag in 3rd place. In the second moto, Weltin didn’t get the start he was looking for, but was able to make multiple passes and secured 4th place on the very last lap. With a 4th place finish as well in the 3rd moto, the KX 250 rider concluded the MX Tour with a 3rd place overall on the weekend and an impressive 2nd place in the 250 MX Tour Championship.
“Even though I never lost sight of my ultimate goal, I am happy with the final results and would like to thank the whole team for their support during this season. 2020 was full of uncertainties since the beginning, but despite it all, we went racing, grabbed some wins, some podium and finished it with a 2nd place in the championship. Looking forward to doing it all again” – Marshal Weltin
Tyler Medaglia used the 5th and last round to visit the podium multiple times and improve his final championship standing. The weekend started with a lot of action as Tyler went back and forth for the first half of the moto to finally settle for 4th place. The 2nd moto saw the battle of the Kawasaki teammates, pushing both riders to get on the podium and giving Medaglia a 3rd position. The #5 rider ran an impressive 3rd race by kicking it off with a top-3 start and making the pass for 2nd on lap 4. From there, Tyler turned on the cruise control and raced himself to the finish line to conclude the day with a 3rd place overall. His great performance of the last round was enough to make him gain one position in the championship standing, leaving him with a 4th place in the 450 MX Tour Series.
“I had fun this weekend. Sand Del Lee will always have a special place in my heart. All in all, 2020 was the best weirdest racing season yet. I’m ready for 2 more rounds of SX. Bring it on!” – Tyler Medaglia
The Monster Energy Kawasaki Pro Circuit will now take a short break and come back for the 2-round SX Tour coming up in September.
