THOMAS RENDALL – RACE REPORT ECAN

My Race Report comes a little late in the week, but I have moved into Cottage Life this week.
No I am not sitting around doing nothing, but I am at the cottage. That means Swimming, Mountain Biking, Kayaking, hanging out with my cottage friends and having a little rest before “My Road to Walton” well I guess this is part of that.

I just raced at the ECAN in Deschambault, QC. and put in what I called solid rides. I took 2nd overall in 65 6-9, with 3/1/2 moto scores and 4th in 85 7-11 with 5/4/4 moto scores, all on my little KTM 65 SXS. The track was rough and ate a lot of riders. I was a lucky one I guess, but did go down hard in 65 Moto1 with Damon Burbine #77 we both remounted and finished 1st and 3rd. I am thankful for my Bell Moto 9, and Atlas Brace. I think the track was the roughest that I have raced on all year, but it was sand and I love sand! I learned a lot, and will never reach to take off a tear off on a fast downhill again even when I cant see. I didn’t crash but can tell you it is a lot more scary than going down a fast downhill without being able to see, but I did get the tear off off! My Dad tells me that everything is a learning
experience, and I am thinking he might be 1/2 right.

When I am at an ECAN or Walton there is more for me to do than just wait for motos, so I can be found at the BMX Pump track, watching races, hanging out with my mx friends or saying hi to my sponsors! It is always nice to be at the big races because usually most of my sponsors are there. I got to spend time with Steph, JSR, and Andy at the KTM trailer and Steph was nice enough to give my friend Nathan and I a tour of the trailer. It is really cool to see Tyler, Dusty and Coles Fox gear, and Oakley goggles all laid out for each practice and moto. (it is kind of how I like to have my stuff). Then I went over to Oakley and talked with them for a while and had some food. Then there are my local sponsors and friends from Ottawa who are always great at pumping me up for the race. Jim from Wheelsport who has watched me grow in this sport from my 1st ride in his backyard (I wouldn’t leave)and Kevin from MX101 are always passing giving me tips and complements, and also Leah who is not officially my mechanic but is always there with a smile, encouragement and willing to help at the start. When I am travelling it is always nice to feel at home. I even got to show my Dad that I am paying attention at school by switching from English to French when on the podium, everyone at Deschambault appreciated it.

It was great to see Jeremy Medaglia take his first overall, and all the pro’s working so hard on that rough track.

So now its time to get out for a mountain bike ride with my Dad and Sister before the end of the day, swimming, fishing, kayaking and more plus a triathlon this weekend to add to “My Road to Walton”
