The Trials And Tribulations of a Moto Mom

Hello cyber world! Hope you are having a great week so far. Seeing all the pictures of friends in warmer places is making me super jealous.  I can’t even imagine that this snow will ever go away. On a good note, it is March, the clocks sprung forward, which makes for longer days – more time to look out at the snow. Haha.

Today is the first day of the March Break. I may just be pulling my hair out by the end of next week. Haha. We were supposed to head south last weekend; race then practice for a few days. Unfortunately, Virginia still has bad weather and Justin’s too busy with work. Hopefully we can get away in the next week or two, as I can’t see riding in Canada happening anytime soon.

Last week I talked about how exercise was important for these young racers. Well, I decided to work out with Preston and Justin. I did it two days in a row and on the third morning I could barely walk. Haha! Maybe I need to take some of my own advice. I do plan on doing it with him more, I can’t wait until we can get out for bike rides and walks.  We had so much fun, exercise is definitely easier when you’re laughing.

So this past week we got some extremely exciting news. Preston was accepted as one of the riders to race in the KTM Junior Supercross Challenge on March 22nd at the Rogers Centre. This is a once in a life time opportunity that we are so honoured to be a part of.  This is the second year we applied. Obviously last year our application wasn’t chosen and we had a very upset little boy when we watched the kids race in Vegas last year. You have to be 7 or 8 to race, so this year was Preston’s last chance. I’m so happy that we were picked for the Toronto round. Family and friends will be in the stands cheering him on. For my readers who don’t follow supercross, this is a race they have on the professional track in between professional supercross races. They show a clip of the race and the winner on television so obviously Preston is super excited and has told his whole grade 2 class to set their PVRs. I believe he even asked last year’s teacher to come watch him too. We are so proud although I’m a little nervous already. Hopefully this is where all his arenacross practice pays off, as well as racing in front of thousands of people. I can imagine to walk out and see all those people watching you race can be a little nerve racking if you haven’t done it before. Preston’s taking it all in stride, excited, but not nervous at all. To him, it’s just another race.  The only difference is it will be on a KTM and not his race bike. He’s got some practice to do in the next few weeks. There will be an autograph session at the KTM JRSX pit between 3:30pm-4:30pm that day. Make sure you come by to say hi. Congratulations and good luck to all the other racers that were chosen. Be safe and have fun!

Preston is all ready to mix it up with all of the other Ktmjrsx riders next weekend in Toronto.

Hope you all have a great March Break. I hope everyone had a great time racing in Daytona this past weekend, I’ll just keep counting down the days until Vegas when I too can be in hot, sunny weather. Haha! Thank you all who continue to read and follow our story.
