Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Nelson Starts Off New Season in Championship Hunt

Anaheim, Calif. (January 9, 2016) – Troy Lee Designs/Red Bull/KTM’s Jessy Nelson and Mitchell Oldenburg lined up for the first race of the season as the supercross series got underway at Angel Stadium. After six Heat Race and 15 Main Event laps were completed, Nelson collected the runner-up finish while Oldenburg stayed in the top 10 with a ninth-place result.
Nelson started the supercross season by showing off the power of his KTM 250 SX-F, grabbing the Main Event holeshot award. He quickly pulled a gap over the field behind him and settled into a great pace for the 15-lap race. When the checkered flag flew, Nelson held onto an impressive second place, starting the season off strong as he contests the nine-round Western Regional championship.“It’s always good to start the season on the podium and have a good base to move forward with,” said Nelson. “It felt good to be out front again and hopefully we can make the lead stick until the checkers next weekend in San Diego.”
Nelson’s teammate Oldenburg started the night coming through the pack in his heat race, displaying strong speed that he transferred to the Main Event. While he didn’t get the start he was looking for, he came from outside the top 10 to finish with a solid ninth-place result for the night.“I’m so happy to be back with such a great group of people [on the TLD team],” said Oldenburg. “I was looking for a little better night, but getting out of the first round healthy is always a good goal to have, so I’m excited to line up next weekend in San Diego.”
The team will head roughly 90 minutes south of Angel Stadium next weekend as the series makes its first of two stops at Petco Park in downtown San Diego. The riders were sporting the SE LE Team Orange and Navy Racewear, along with the SE Team Helmet. About KTM:
“READY TO RACE” for KTM, these three words are far more than a simple slogan. They stand for the entire company philosophy of developing vehicles that can without any modifications comprehensively assert themselves in any race. Direct from the dealer onto the track and into the battle for victory. Designers, engineers and riders are bound by a clear common denominator: an unconditional passion for motorcycles. The whole KTM family is a living example of this worldwide. Countless offroad World and European championship titles plus brilliant victories in the world’s toughest races (International Six Days Enduro, Dakar Rally, Erzbergrodeo, and many more) all speak for themselves. And KTM Supermotos, Naked Bikes, Superbikes and the X-Bow all demonstrate what an “orange” lead means on asphalt.
