When the gate dropped on the main events at Round 2 of the Rockstar Energy Triple Crown SXTour Series, our top riders blasted off of the dark starting line with two things in mind. The first was to put on a great show for all of the fans that had packed into Delaware Speedway, the second thing the riders wanted to do was just make it through the night safely. With a very technical track in front of them and limited lighting to guide them, the Delaware SX was as much about survival as it was about scoring valuable Triple Crown points. However, one of the big things that has always amazed me about our pro riders is their ability to race and entertain fans in any condition presented to them. On Saturday night, the riders battled like they were racing Anaheim 1, keeping the fans on the edge of their seat in both main events. Eventually, Jess Pettis and Cole Thompson were victorious over Shawn Maffenbeier and Colton Facciotti in the 250 Pro/Am and 450 classes respectively. It was a great night of racing and once again James Lissimore was there to capture it all for this week’s Yamaha Motor Canada Behind the Lens.
After fighting off challenges from Matt Goerke and Colton Facciotti, Thompson rode off with the win in Delaware.
This incredible photo shows just how dark it was on some parts of the track on Saturday night in Delaware.
With talk that the OTSFF Yamaha Team is going to consist of three riders in 2019, Dillan Epstein will be looking for some more consistency next year.
Shawn Maffenbeier led the 250 main event for a few laps before being passed by Jess Pettis. However, his second place secured Maff the 250 Triple Crown Title and the 10,000 that goes with it.
While he is still recovering from a crash in Moncton, Keylan Meston was in Delaware helping out Wyatt Waddell.
The Jess Pettis train just kept rolling on Saturday night in Delaware. Hopefully this country’s fastest 250 rider can do the same in Red Bud on October 7th.
After some of his rides during the past few months, there is no doubting who #1 is in the 250 class.
Phil Nicoletti grabbed the early lead in Delaware and would go on to finish in third overall in the 450 class.
As promised, the track for Round 2 of the SXTour was a little bigger and a lot more technical than any track we’ve seen in 2018.
