When it was announced that Round 2 of the 2020 Monster Energy Supercross Series was going to be in St.Louis, there was definitely mixed emotions from the riders and teams. On one hand, they were all excited to be heading back to the Show Me State after a year’s hiatus. After all, the St.Louis SX is famous for its great dirt and entertaining racing inside the Dome At America’s Centre. However, with St.Louis being so far away from Rounds 1 and 3 in Anaheim, many felt that the travel was exessive for the early part of the series. But when all was said and done, it didn’t matter as when the gate dropped on both the 250SX and 450SX main events the fans once again got treated to some incredible racing.
In the 250 class, hometown hero Austin Forkner took advantage of a stadium full of his fans and rode away to the victory. After giving away the win last weekend in Anaheim, this was a great comeback race for Forkner. Behind him was the ever charging Justin Cooper who came from behind to finish second and hold on to the points lead.
In the 450 class, the entire supercross world cheered as Ken Roczen finally got the win he’s been looking for since his massive crash back in 2017. As we’ve all watched, Roczen has been close before but has been unable to put it all together. Well, now he’s done it and we’ll see if his St.Louis win is just a sign of things to come. With two different winners so far in 2020, the 450SX class is setting up to be extremely competitive this year. To look back on what happened in St. Louis, here is a great collection of James Lissimore photos for this weeks Yamaha Motor Canada Behind the Lens.
Although he had a little slip up on the last lap of the main event, Adam Cianciarulo had another great night at Round 2.
Unlike last weekend in Anaheim, Blake Baggett came out for opening ceremonies with no baby on board.
After a solid second place finish at Round 2, Justin Barcia will once again carry the red plate into the third race of the series in Anaheim.
After a tough opening round in Anaheim, Luke Clout came back strong at Round 2 and finished 7th overall.
Just like his Blu Cru teammate Barcia, Justin Cooper finished second in St Louis and will also carry the red plate into Round 3.
After winning his heat race, Christian Craig crashed hard late in the main event and ended up in 22nd.
After some mistakes in Anaheim last weekend, Austin Forkner came back strong at Round 2 and grabbed his first win of 2020.
Unlike last weekend where Forkner looked rusty, in St Louis he was riding smooth and fast all day long.
After leading the early laps of the 450SX main event, Zach Osborne remained strong and ended up in 5th place.
Aaron Plessinger had a solid night in St Louis and rode his Factory YZ450 to a 10th place finish in the main event.
After having to qualify again through the LCQ, Chad Reed was riding well in the main event until a mechanical issue forced him to pull off.
Former top Canadian pro rider Shane Drew is back with the HRC Honda Team in 2020 and has been helping Ken Roczen with his bike set-up.
The red team had an unforgettable night in the Show Me State.
