Yamaha Motor Canada Presents The St Louis SX Photo Album
What a night it was in the Show-Me State as the third and final Triple Crown event of the 2022 Monster Energy Supercross Series took place. With three exciting main events in both the 250SX East and 450SX classes, fans had multiple opportunities to watch their favourite riders battle each other. In the 250SX East class, RJ Hampshire finally took his first-ever pro win as he rode consistently all night long. Points leader Jett Lawrence also rode strong but a crash in the third and final main event knocked him out of contention for the overall win. In the 450SX class, the lone KTM factory rider Marvin Musquin continued his solid riding of late and took the overall win. There has been talk that Musquin might be retiring at the end of the SX Series but if he keeps riding like he currently is then he’ll most likely return in 2023. It was an entertaining night of racing in St Louis and now the riders move south to Atlanta for Round 14.Photos by Matt Wellumson
The best dirt of the SX Series is always in St Louis. Jason Anderson had an off night at Round 13 as crashes kept him off of the podium. Justin Barcia was fast in St Louis but a big crash on press day detuned him a little. Although Jett Lawrence was the fastest rider at Round 13, Hampshire was more consistent. The glorious flying men of the Monster Energy Supercross Series. Racing in his final St Louis SX Justin Brayton appeared to be enjoying himself. Star Racing Yamaha fill-in rider Kyle Chisholm continues to impress as he battles the kids. Unfortunately we witnessed too many crashes in St Louis. After years of trying Hampshire finally got his first SX win in St Louis. Between his two stroke hot lap and being a moto dad Chad Reed had a busy night in St Louis. Jett Lawrence was all set to win the overall at Round 13 but a crash in main event 3 ended his chances.
It seems like the more technical the track is the better Marvin Musquin rides. Marvin celebrates his big win with a hug from his wife. Phil Nicoletti had his best race of 2022 in St Louis as he took a solid second in the final race of the night. During opening ceremonies Chad Reed broke out his SX title winning 2004 YZ250. Chase Sexton was fast enough to win in St Louis but a bad start in main event 3 ruined his chances. The lone Canadian rider in St Louis was Guillaume St Cyr who came up just short of qualifying in the 450SX class. With a long sweeping left hand turn the St Louis start was one of the safest of the season. Malcolm Stewart came into Round 13 as one of the favourites to win. Sadly a few mistakes kept him off of the podium. After fighting through the opening two main events, Eli Tomac ended his night with big win in main event 3. Even though Eli Tomac didn’t win in St Louis, he still extended his massive points lead in the 450SX class. As we saw with the Dean Wilson crash the whoops in St Louis were very challenging. Even though we don’t see a lot of them anymore, everyone loves a heel-clicker. It’s been a tough year for the KTM team but Musquin gave them something to cheer about in St Louis.
