Denaye Giroux Blog: Our Motocross Family

denaye hug4We hear more and more everyday of the serious injuries and tragedies that happen in our sport. Is it because the sport is becoming more dangerous? Or is it because the amount of social media we have nowadays glorifies tragedies and keeps us up to date, minute by minute, with everything that is going on in our world? I am the type of person that believes everything happens for a reason. It’s all a part of a life lesson we are given to overcome and learn from, or which is meant to help someone else in their life. There is no such thing as a coincidence; people are put in your life for a reason.

Let’s take Brent Worrall, Sierra Roth, and Blair Morgan for example. They’re all very talented riders who put their whole heart and soul into their racing. With one crash their lives were changed forever, crashes that could have happened to any one of us. At that very moment they began a new journey in life being paralyzed. It amazes me how quickly they have accepted their new life and overcome obstacles that some of us could not even imagine. You can tell that they have a new outlook on life and don’t take one second for granted! I don’t know how many times I heard Sierra say that she is going to get back on a bike, which I don’t doubt for one second because we have all seen that it is possible; and the fact that Brent himself has done more for promoting the sport of motocross in Canada in the past couple months than most people could do in years; to see Blair Morgan, a true legend of our sport, be able to ride his sled again, and now be able to watch his kids grow up is amazing to see.

When people are faced with hard challenges in life there always seems to be two options: one would be to turn away and avoid dealing with it, or the second would be to face the problem and push yourself to work through it. There is always a way to a greater outcome. It’s the choices you make and how you get there that builds you into the person you are.

If only the entire world had even a percentage of their drive to succeed, this world could be a lot different. I have nothing but the utmost respect for anyone who can overcome and succeed the worst of times and turn it into a positive. That’s exactly what they are doing; these are the true role models of the world!

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles”  – Christopher Reeve

“In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity” – Albert Einstein

“Obstacles can’t stop you . Problems can’t stop you. Most of all other people can’t stop you. Only you can stop you.” -Jeffrey Gitomer

To answer to the question “Is our sport becoming more dangerous?”, I think that the level of danger has definitely gone up from what it used to be. The bikes are getting faster, some of the tracks are getting harder, the up and coming riders are being pushed to the next level of “fast” racing, but I also believe that we all know it’s not IF we crash it’s WHEN we crash. That comes along with being involved in this sport. As much as we love it, accidents can happen. Hearing the story of Braydon Stuart, a local BC boy who got seriously injured the other weekend at an arenacross event in Washington, is heartbreaking. I don’t know Braydon but I know he is part of the Motocross community, and because we are all so close in Canadian Motocross it’s great to see everyone come together from coast to coast to help out the family when they need it most.  Be sure to check out the items up for auction for Braydon’s Recovery. Is Social Media a big part of why we hear the bad news of the world? Yes, social media has had a huge impact on our lives. It has been a great way for everyone to stay connected in an easier, more accessible way, but unfortunately we hear a lot of the bad news, tragedies, and accidents on social media. If you ever turn on the news channel, 80% of it is based on the negative things that go on in our world. Much like social media, most people just want to talk about the bad stuff. It’s unfortunate that the media is filled with so much negativity when there are so many inspiring people in the world that could lead others to do great things.
