Cole Thompson Update

One of Cole’s highlights in 2013 was winning the very prestigious Walton Sword.

With the beginning of the 2014 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals just over a month away, one of Canada’s best hopes for an MX1 title, Cole Thompson, is out for the summer with a knee injury. As was reported last week, Cole ended up doing much more knee damage in his crash at the Houston Supercross than first thought. After getting back to California and having an MRI on his injured knee, the scan showed extensive damage that will require surgery next week in Windsor, Ontario.

Although Cole, his sponsors, his fans and family are obviously all struggling to comprehend this bleak prognosis, Cole is expected to make a full recovery and will be back on the track in 2015. Cole’s brother and confidant, Kyle Thompson, had this to say about what lies ahead. “You can look at this setback one of two ways; while we’re very disappointed about Cole’s injury, he did have a great season in Supercross. After his recovery, he will be back and he’ll be stronger than ever. Although we’d love to be on line next month in Nanaimo, we haven’t had a summer off in a long, long time. While you never want to get injured and miss races, I think this break is going to be great for Cole and his future. The kid works so hard and he never takes time off. Now he has to and I feel like this break from racing is going to make him hungrier than ever.”

So there you have it from Cole’s inner circle, he will be back, he will be recharged and he will be better than ever. As mentioned, Cole’s knee surgery is scheduled for some time next week in Windsor, Ontario so let’s wish him good luck with getting everything fixed so he can come back strong and give Canadian fans a hometown boy to cheer for in the 2015 Supercross Series.
