ROUND #1 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross Nationals

June 4, 2014 – Round #1 of the Canadian MX Nationals kicked off this weekend at The Wastelands MX Park in Nanaimo, BC. The sun was out early which ensured a hot day of racing filled with hydration packs and lots of shade.
Royal Distributing Fox KTM Racing’s Kaven Benoit used his Core Manual clutch to grab the holeshot in the first MX2 Moto, he would swap positions with Shawn Maffenbeier once before re-taking the lead and checking out for the rest of the Moto.

In Moto 2 Kaven got a top five start and quickly moved his way up to third place behind Topher Ingalls on the first lap. A few laps later he would take advantage of a tangle up with the two riders ahead of him and he never looked back taking the overall with 1-1 Moto finishes.

Kaven’s MX1 counterpart Tyler Medaglia rode calm and consistent on a track that has proven to be the most challenging on the circuit for him in previous season. Top ten starts in both Motos helped Tyler put his head down and start picking up positions on his way to 7th overall with 5-7 Moto finishes.
The Rockstar Energy OTSFF Yamaha riders had only a couple days to get used to their new Core Manual Torq Drive clutches but it never showed. Shawn Maffenbeier the teams MX2 rider used his to get top three starts in both Motos. Riding in second place almost all of Moto 1 Shawn was one stalled his bike one turn from the finish line but was able to push his bike across the line for 3rd place. In Moto 2 he took advantage of the same rider tangle up as Kaven Benoit and rode to a solid 2nd place which secured 2nd overall for the day.
