Happy Father’s Day! We’ve finally been able to enjoy a quiet weekend at home, in between two busy ones. Yesterday was spent practicing at Walton Raceway. It was nice to catch up with the old TVR crew. Today we spent the day gardening. It’s nice to have a weekend at home sometimes 🙂
Last weekend we attended the Loretta Lynn’s Regional Qualifier at Red Bud. We knew heading into the weekend that it was going to be tough. Friday was the practice day. Preston rode well, but we’ve come to the conclusion he doesn’t give it his all until race day. It happens everywhere we go, we think he has no chance while watching him in practice and then he blows our minds on race day. Hahaha. Over 60 riders on the gate and only the top 7 make it to Loretta Lynn’s. The first moto was split into two divisions. The top 16 of each division and the top 9 from the LCQ would go onto the 2nd and 3rd motos. In moto one Preston came 9th, a relief that he didn’t have to go to the LCQ. Moto 2 he came 13th. He rode well, just not fast enough to keep up with the leaders. Moto 3 was the next day, it had poured all night and we were delayed a few hours. I was secretly praying that it would pour during their moto. Preston is a fantastic mud rider, and who knows what could have happened. Preston’s proved many times that he can still ride hard and fast in the rain. However, the rain stopped and the track was actually fantastic, the track crew did a great job. Preston got a great start and finished 10th. He finished with a 12th overall. Not in the top 7, but still a huge accomplishment. He got great starts every moto, was consistent and never went down over the whole weekend. His lap times also dropped over 15 seconds from the practice day to the last moto. We were so proud of him and it was a great experience. It’s not often that a Canadian rider gets to ride against the fastest kids in this sport.
This past weekend was also the first time we met the Cobra guys face to face. Since switching to Cobra’s almost a year ago we have talked to these people many times via email, Facebook and phone conversations. It was nice to finally meet in person and see firsthand what a great company they are; out at the races paying attention to all their riders.
Preston also qualified in the North Central Region, so we will have one more shot at it next weekend. On Thursday we will be heading to Illinois. I’m tired just thinking about it. Haha. I’m praying he makes it this time and all goes well. He has his heart set on Loretta’s this year. He’s so close 🙂 So keep your fingers and toes crossed next weekend.
You can now see why I was happy to have a quiet weekend at home. Lol. The driving, packing and racing is exhausting for us all. Thanks again to all the follow our story and to MXP for sharing. Have a great week!
