Ross Johnson claims both Open Main wins
Monday October 27, 2014 – Press Release
This past weekend was the opening round of Future West Canadian Arenacross Championships in Armstrong, BC. The Cycle North Honda Team of Ross Johnson, Adam Enticknap, Wyatt Waddell, and Tyler Gibbs, along with Husky Mounted Dylan Schmoke, Yamaha Marine racer Shawn Maffenbeier, and Kawasaki racers Hayden Wolfe and Connor McCarron were amped for the battle on the tight indoor battlefield. “I’m so excited to get the first round over and done with. It gets a little stressful with this many riders, but they all rode so good and all the hard work putting it together makes a little stress worth it,” stated Team Manager Kourtney Lloyd.
On the Pro side of things the team came out swinging both nights. Ross Johnson was last year’s Open champion and he proved once again that when he throws a leg over the 2015 CR 450F he’s the man to beat. After holeshotting both mains he never looked back claiming victory on both nights.
His teammate Adam Entiknap or better known as the “Seven Deuce Deuce,” is new to the small confines of Future West AX but he adapted fast. He took home two podium finishes in the Open mains as well as the Dash for Cash on Friday night board his 2015 CR450F.
It was uncertain how good Shawn Maffenbeier would be aboard his Rockstar Energy Drink Yamaha Marina Cycle North bike because of his lack of experience in the series. We know Shawn is a hard worker and has loads of talent which shined through as he grabbed two podiums in the Lites division. The crowd stood on their feet every time Shawn attacked the tight turns as his corner speed was unmatched.
California native Dylan Schmoke had a hard time adjusting to the cold chill in Armstrong, BC but he heated up on the track with solid rides in all four mains. His best was a 4th in the Open main on Friday night showing that when the cards fall his way Dylan belongs with the top guys.
Our Amateur riders also showed great speed and talent all weekend long. Cycle North knows that having a strong amateur presents under our tent shows the future of our sport. Tyler Gibbs was a man on a mission all weekend long aboard his CR150F dominating the 85cc 12-15 class. He also rode well in the Supermini class grabbing second. New to Arenacross on the Kawasaki KX250F is Hayden Wolfe. The amateur star that has won the Team Green ride once is currently in the running for another. The best part of it all is Hayden rolled into AX like he was a wiley vet racer. He handled the course with no problems other than a little inconsistency holding him back. He will have that figured out for the next round and no doubt be battling for wins in the Junior classes. Our youngest Kawasaki racer is Connor McCarron who is also new t the AX scene. Connor rode hard all weekend scoring solid results, but it was his positive attitude and smiles all weekend that helped the Cycle North pits are the happiest all weekend long. It’s kids like Connor that makes going racing that much easier. Thanks Connor for always be happy.
We at the Cycle North race team are super happy on how the first round went and are over excited to get into to Cloverdale and do it all over again. Racing is hard, but when you have a list of supporters like us it makes it easy. Thanks so much to all the sponsors below:
