Behind the Lens With Frank Hoppen- San Diego Supercross

We think everyone will agree that San Diego is one of the most beautiful cites in the USA. With it’s warm climate and scenic views, the new Petco Park located in the downtown area provided the perfect backdrop for round six of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. Once again Frank Hoppen was on hand to bring us another version of Behind the Lens, San Diego style.

Although the track inside Petco Park was little on the tight side. It was hard to find fault with the stadiums perfect location.

sdcrowd

For a stadium that was right downtown with very little parking, the crowd was very good for this first time supercross venue.

sdpits

Even paddock parking was a little tight as the pits were spread over two different lots.

sdmartinez

There’s currently a lot of talk right now regarding Cole Martinez. Will he or won’t he be Brett Metcalfe’s and Teddy Maier’s teammate this summer in Canada? I say yes he will be.

sdchiz

With a large fan following and some good speed, Team Chiz had a great night in San Diego and finished 16th in the main event.

sdaldrege

Almost every photo that came out of round six was spectacular with the buildings as a backdrop.

sdbaggett

My supercross savvy wife mentioned that Blake Baggett should continue to run this version of his #4 for the rest of the series as it looks less Ricky Carmichaelish.

sd100

One of the sports great sponsors covers the Tuff Blocks at San Diego.

sdbowers

After his tough night in Anaheim last weekend, Tyler Bowers bounced back nicely at round six to finish on the podium.

sdseely

Each weekend Cole Seely is showing more and more speed and confidence. On Saturday night Cole won his heat race but struggle in the main event after a bad start.

sdtickle

After taking last weekend off to let some aches and pains heal up. Broc Tickle was back on the track in San Diego and finished 9th in the main event.

sdweimer

Although Jake Weimer could only managed a 15th in San Diego, his Military inspired camo Seven Gear looked very impressive.

sdtomac

It seems each weekend Eli Tomac is the fastest rider on the track, however one or two mistakes seem to cost the Honda rider. At San Diego he once again made an early race error that cost him any chance of getting on the podium.

sdwebb

After a horrific crash is practice Cooper Webb picked himself up and came back to win the main event and extend his points lead in the West 250SX class.

sdwebb1

I’m betting that Webb was one sore kid on Sunday morning and most likely happy that he now has a two month break before the west series resumes.

sdpolitelli

Austin Politelli once again rode strong in San Diego and finished 16th in the 250SX main event.

sdroczen

After taking the lead early in the 450SX main event, Ken Roczen made one small error that aloud Trey Canard to slip by for the win.

sdmillsaps

After six lackluster rounds Davi Millsaps must be happy that the series is now moving east.

sdmetcalfe

Here our 2013 MX1 Champion Brett Metcalfe shows perfect style as he floats over a San Diego jump en route to a season high 11th in the main event.

sdgrant2

Josh Grant may not be able to win races anymore, however he’s still one of the most stylish riders on the circuit. Check out this sequence as he gets sideways over the San Diego finish line jump.

sddungey

Ryan Dungey was once again strong in San Diego and finished in third just behind Canard and Roczen.

sdhill

Just like Millsaps in the 450 class, Justin Hill has to be disappointed with how the series has gone so far in 2015. Since Hill was fast on a 450 at the Monster Cup in October I wonder if KTM will move him up for Dallas this weekend?

sdreed

Chad Reed was good in San Diego and finished 4th for the night. However, his good just wasn’t good enough to get on the podium.

sdreed1

These next four races are crucial for Reed if he wants to get back in the points race for this championship.

sdcanard

Trey Canard rode a perfect 20 laps in San Diego to take home his second win of the season.

sdpodium

Let the games begin!! Now that the 2015 Monster Energy AMA SX Series is moving east the racing will no doubt become a little more intense.
