My Three Favourite Frank Hoppen Photos From The 2015 Santa Clara SX

It’s hard to believe that we’ve almost reached the end of the 2015 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Series. With only a few rounds remaining the series visited Northern California this past weekend at the beautiful Levi’s Stadium. Even though both the 250SX and 450SX championships have already been decided, the action was still intense in both classes. As he’s been all season, Frank Hoppen of Hoppenworld Photos was on hand to capture everything that went down inside this new SX venue. Here are my three favourites from the 2015 Santa Clara Supercross:

A year ago, Weston Pieck was just finishing his 2014 SX season as a full privateer. After that he joined the RCH Suzuki Team as a fill-in for the injured Broc Tickle. Pieck had a pretty solid outdoor season that led to a ride for 2015 with the JGR Auto Trader Yamaha Team. What a difference a year has made as this past weekend Weston Peick battled the series champion for a heat race win, and then backed that ride up with a solid third in the main event. Look for this animal to be very good this summer on the rough outdoor tracks of the USA!

This photo is for every hard core, supercross-loving privateer that has ever tried to qualify for a US Supercross. Over the years there have been many cool stories of these guys scraping together whatever they have just to make it the race, most of the time in a pick-up truck with their bike in the back. Once at the track they’re pitted way in the back of the paddock, and once the race is over they have to scramble to find a place to leave their bike so it doesn‘t get stolen. This story has been told time and time again in supercross. This past weekend in Santa Clara, Andrea Winkler was able to find a cozy spot for his bike inside the luggage room of his hotel. Sometimes a rider has to do what a rider has to do.

With Levi’s Stadium being a brand new venue for supercross, fans in the bay area were treated to some great racing on one of the most technical tracks of the year. Under sunny skies and warm temperatures, the stars of supercross put on quite a show in the home of the San Francisco 49er’s. Here, last week’s winner, Cole Seely, floats over one of Santa Clara’s massive jumps on the way to fifth in the 450SX main event.
