International Motorsports/RMR Suspension Team Race Report

This past weekend we got all set to run Round 2 of the CMRC Rockstar Nationals. We saw a great opportunity to run with the Factory Teams, and with the up and down start to our season, we are still pleased with what we have been able to put together. Ricky Dietrich was to be our anchor Pro MX 1 rider, but had an unexpected injury to his knee during practice and is working to have it rehabilitated to ride again. We were fortunate to find a replacement in Collin Jurin. He got to come and stretch his legs on our Husqvarna FC450. Both riders are very thrilled with the handling and performance of the bike.

Collin had been to the Nanaimo track once before, a few years back, when it was a true mud fest. However, his time on the track was minimal as he only rode the practice and 1st moto due to the balance of the races being rained out. This time around, he only got one chance, at a local Washington race, to try out the FC450 before nationals. His first day on the bike, went very well and he felt extremely comfortable with the suspension setup on the bike. With a fresh motor, new clutch, and minor suspension changes, we were ready to set out for Group 1 practice.

It took a few laps to get used to the track, and Collin was able to keep a 4th place pace in his group. Before heading to the qualifier, we made a small change to the forks and Collin came out of the gate looking to top his time. Not only did he beat it, but he put the International Motorsports/RMR Suspension bike into 8th place overall between Group 1 and Group 2. He said a big help was his new Motostuff Blade rotor. With so much braking power, he was able to carry more speed into the corners with full braking confidence.

Going into Moto #1, with another change to the forks, we were ready. Out of the gate, Collin had an okay start caused by spinning a bite off the gate, putting him in 18th place going into turn 2. Then his front wheel was taken out by another rider and he was taken down to 39th. He was not about to give up, and he slashed his way through the pack taking him up to 12th place in only 6 laps. In the next lap though, he hit one of the top jumps and found himself cross rutting and went down again. He pull himself back on the bike and was able to pull off a 12th place finish at the checkered flag. Later in the day, gate drop in Moto #2 started well with a 4th place around turn 2. The 30+ º heat of the day started to take a toll on Collin during this race, but he was still able to get a solid 11th place finish, giving him an 11th overall. We are very proud of Collin and we are regrouping and look forward to pushing for a top 10 finish in Round 3 in Calgary.
