FXR Racing Presents the Mid-Week Report With Andy White

This time of the year we are usually winding down from racing and riding, but lucky for us two-wheel enthusiasts, we have a few more venues left on the schedule to check out. Looking at the list, I see that the USGP is at Glen Helen in California and this week’s GNCC is being held at one of the best MX tracks in the world, Unadilla. There are also a lot of local events all across Canada to seek out before we get a blast of that white stuff. Yes, I happened to notice that Winnipeg has snow in the forecast. So get out there and enjoy a bit of track and trail time now.

With one round remaining in the 2015 MXGP Championships, you have to wonder where Ryan Villopoto would’ve finished had he not gotten injured?

Let’s start the report off with the Motocross GP that is happening in the USA. The buzz around the GP was a pretty big deal when Ryan Villopoto announced his plans to race the world GP circuit. The word on the street was that Ryan was tired of the full year schedule of Supercross and the outdoors, plus all the extra events like the Monster Million, MXDN, European Supercrosses plus testing week-in, week-out. If you calculate the number of weekends these guys are away from home you are looking at approximately 35 weekends a year. That leaves only 17 weekends at home with the family. No wonder a good number of managers and mechanics are all single. It looks like most of the heavy hitters will be at Glen Helen for this final round of the series. I hear most of the KTM and Husky US riders will be competing as well. The only rider that has not signed up is Ryan Dungey. It sounds like he needs a break from racing for a while, and you have to agree, he has earned it.

Highlights from the Mexican GP happened last weekend and it looks like they finally found some real dirt to host the race. I was a little shocked, however, that there were only 20 riders per class competing. I saw a pretty cool picture of the track with some cactus bushes near the track. Man, I sure would not want to crash at that race!

The man who can ride anything, Tyler Medaglia is headed back to finish up the 2015 GNCC Series in Unadilla.

I had a good talk with Tyler Medaglia’s father, Derrick, today. It looks like Tyler is going to head down to Unadilla and give it another shot at a GNCC event. If you recall, Tyler started the season down south on his new Husky 450. While testing for the upcoming outdoor Canadian motocross series, Tyler thought he would try out a few rounds. Not only did he do well, he absolutely killed it! Imagine some kid from Canada on his motocross 450 with outdoor suspension and gearing, standard gas tank, no hand guards, and lines up and blows by all these seasoned cross country guys. I would bet money if he had the right equipment Tyler would be fighting for a podium finish. In the past, lots of Canadian riders have headed south for this one-off race. I remember hearing a bet placed with Kevin Tyler this summer. It looks like he is suiting up for the event as well. Good luck Kevin and remember to pack the pain meds and the oxygen tank.

The countdown is on for the first round of the Canadian Arenacross Series. The first round will be held in London, Ontario on September 25-26. There has been lots of news of top US arenacross riders coming up as well. I hope that we have some Canadian riders competing too. I heard that Dylan Wright has been putting in the time on a specially built track near Sand Del Lee. Don’t forget it’s not just pro riders that will be competing all weekend, it’s open to all classes and ages too. The BC Arenacross series starts in a few weeks as well with the first round on October 2nd in Armstrong, BC. Come out and support a local event near you!
