We are less than a week away from the start of the 2012 Royal Distributing Canadian Enduro Championship. Now in its fourth year the highly successful Championship is on its way to creating Canadian motorcycling history. Never before has an off-road championship traveled across Canada and become the acknowledged true test of Canada’s best off-road riders in such a short period of time. The main reasons being the CEC’s standardized format is easy to understand, is attractive to new and younger riders, does not require the competitor’s motorcycles to have a license plate or specific insurance and is a fair and level playing field unlike other previous championships.
For the last three years the Royal Distributing Canadian Enduro Championship has been very successful in developing better riders from beginner all the way to the Pro level. One question that is always a hot topic of discussion is what type of racing creates the faster riders. Special test format Enduro racing has been proven successful around the world at developing fast riders but many will argue that the bar to bar action of Cross Country racing makes for a faster rider. In 2012 WEC is going to combine both of these excellent forms of competition into a single National Championship “The Royal Distributing Canadian National Off-road Championship”! This new National Championship will combine the best elements of Enduro with Cross Country and make for an exciting series groundbreaking series. At the end of the season there will be Champions named in all Enduro and Cross Country classes and in the Pro class results from all 6 events will be combined to name the first ever Royal Distributing Canadian National Off-Road Champion.
As we start our 4th year of National competition World Enduro Canada would like to thank all our sponsors without whom none of this would be possible. Royal Distributing is back for a fourth season as the series Title Sponsor. KTM, Yamaha, Honda and Husaberg are once again our Premium level sponsors. Rekluse – now being distributed by Mongoose in Canada – are back as the Extreme Test sponsor, MXP Magazine as Enduro Test sponsor and new this year Goldentyre is sponsoring the MX test and will be giving away sets of tires to the winner. Inside Motorcycles Magazine will once again be awarding the Top Pro Jr with a cheque for $500. A&E Racing in Brooks, AB has stepped up as the Presenting Sponsor of the CEC. In addition Rockstar, Wiesner Insurance, West Coast Transportation and Parts Canada are also providing valuable support.
The first two rounds of the CEC launch next Saturday July 7th at an all new location in Vernon, BC. The Vernon Motorcycle Club has put together a top notch course that is being touted as difficult, fun and challenging all in one breath. Despite the recent heavy rains in BC the Vernon club wants to assure all competitors the course is ready to go and will hold up. The forecast is calling for hot, dry weather this week which will help course conditions.
It remains to be seen who will come out on top but one can be sure the competition will be fast and furious among the top Pros. Talking about the CECs and not mentioning the reigning CEC #1 plate holder, KTM mounted Bobby Prochnau would be sacrilege. Prochnau is the acknowledged dominant racer in the Canadian off-road scene. Coming off an impressive 5th place finish in the most recent US-based GNCC series race and finishing just outside the top 10 at the X-Games, Prochnau most definitely has a target on his back. His rivals include 2010 CEC Champion Honda rider Jason Schrage who is affectionately called “The Angry Chipmunk” when he has the bit between his teeth will be gunning for Prochnau. Among the other competitors vying for the top step of the podium are Geoff Nelson, Ryan Graffunder, Philippe Chaine, Guy Giroux and Tyler Murray.
The third and fourth rounds of the CEC take place on familiar territory just a short 25 minutes out of Blairmore Alberta in the heart of the Canadian Rockies. Since the first ever CEC took place at Racehorse Creek Recreation area back in 2009 riders have been longing to once again sink knobbies into the high altitude loam of Racehorse Creek. Clint Riviere and his team have put together an awesome event each of the first fours years of the CEC and this year will be another epic event for sure. It is truly a privilege to be able to ride off-road motorcycles in such a majestic setting and World Enduro Canada thanks our Albertan hosts for their support over the years.
