Great Weekend for the Wheelsport Nihilo Racing Team

Press Release – Wheelsport Nihilo Racing team July 18, 2018

This past weekend Taylor and Thomas left their Ottawa base with their Wheelsport Nihilo KTM’s and headed 7hrs each in different directions and for different reasons.

Taylor headed West 7 hrs for the second round of the 2018 Rockstar Triple Crown on the rough and tough Gopher Dunes track in Cortland Ontario. Taylor has a love hate relationship with this tough track as he injured his knee there last season and ending his season, but had decent success there in past.

Well Taylor was able to treat it just like another day for a Pro, as he showed up and was ready to race! Taylor posted the 9th fastest qualifying time which provided him with a great gate pick for Moto 1 and confidence especially on this Hot and Humid 40C (104F) day in a Sandbox. The 250 Pro Moto 1 gate drop was not the best start for Taylor as he came around Lap 1 in 24th position, but then was on a charge to pick off riders as fast as possible. Six laps in he moved into 14th and could not gain from there. Taylor suffered a crash on the ever changing track and his bike landed on him, but he quickly re-mounted with the adrenaline pumping only to discover later that he had a 3rd degree burn on his arm. Taylor was not going to let a burn stop him and he showed up on the gate for the 2nd drop – Moto 2. Immediately the outcome was different with a very respectable 14th place start, but was in for a tough fight and quickly moved to 10th and then 9th by lap 3. For the rest of the race it was fight for 12th or 11th lap after lap, and when the checkered flag came out it was a solid 11th just shy of the top 10. Taylor’s left GD with a little question mark as to who got who at GD, Track or Taylor and his 14 – 11 Moto scores gave him 11th overall for the day!

Thomas headed 7 hrs east to the Maine State Motocross Championships to seek new competition and another rough and tough track – MX207! Thomas was racing Supermini and Schoolboy (125s and 250F) classes over the 2 days of racing a 4 moto format. He decided to skip the optional Friday practice in better preparation for US Nationals where you only get a short practice to memorize the track. Schoolboy racing was really tight and the KTM 125 proved it could pull decent starts against the 250 four strokes. The motos were longer than most at 6 laps and Thomas handled that well, despite a few falls that put him back at 10th overall for the weekend. Supermini was another story as Thomas was able to pull off some great starts and fight through the riders ahead on the early laps, he did have a few tip overs in some tight corners but also avoided some big pile ups also. Thomas came home with a nice trophy for 3rd overall in the Maine State Championships!

Overall a great weekend of racing 14hrs apart for the Wheelsport Nihilo Racing Team!
