Yamaha Motor Canada Presents Behind the Lens From Anaheim 2

With Round 3 in Anaheim being the first Triple Crown event of the 2019 Monster Energy Supercross Series, all eyes were on Angel Stadium to see how this cool concept would play out. With three main events in each class, the Triple Crown format is definitely different than what were used to seeing. This was my first time witnessing this new format in person so I was eager to see how it would work and just how exciting the racing was going to be.

As I mentioned yesterday in my Monday Gate Drop column, I really enjoyed how the Triple Crown format played out in Anaheim. I love how the main events begin right after the opening ceremonies and then keep going all night long. I really like watching the top riders spend more time on the track, entertaining the spectators and giving fans their money’s worth. If I buy a ticket to a sporting event, I definitely want to see the top athletes more and the Triple Crown format provides that. The one downside is not as many riders qualify for the night show so it leaves a few fast riders sitting in the stands watching while the cameras are rolling. With the normal format these riders might get some television time with perhaps a very entertaining battle in the LCQ. Maybe in the future they could run a short B-main event during the night program to give these riders a few minutes of air time. I don’t think this series should adopt the Triple Crown format full-time, but I sure would like to see a few more. In the east, the Detroit SX is the next Triple Crown event so we’ll look forward to that. For this week’s Yamaha Motor Canada Behind the Lens, we take a look at a few of Frank Hoppen’s best photos from Anaheim 2.
