Daytona Supercross- A Tough Day At the Beach

The first official Supercross season was in 1974 and on March 10th of that year Daytona Beach would host the inaugural race. Holland’s Pierre Karsmakers put his Yamaha in first and would also go onto win the title.

Daytona International Speedway has hosted one race in each of the 45 seasons of Supercross. Daytona Beach and Daytona International Speedway are the only city and venue to have done so. The 2019 Daytona Supercross will be the 46th running of the historic event, which ties the now demolished Silverdome for 2nd all-time in 450SX Class races held. Angel Stadium’s 55 races is the record.

Not always the path to the title: Only 21 times in 45 seasons has the winner of Daytona gone onto win the title. 2015 Ryan Dungey is the last to do so. The eventual champion has finished off of the podium in the previous two seasons in Daytona (Anderson & Dungey).

Honda won 11 straight races in Daytona from 1982-1992 which is the all-time brand record for consecutive wins at a venue or city. After going winless from 2009-2017 in the historic venue Honda’s Justin Brayton took the checkers for his first career win.
