For this week’s Honda Canada Racing Top 10 we reached out to one of our East Coast legends Ryan Lockhart to get his best moments in racing. Ryan has been involved in this sport for many years, first as racer and then as a mechanic, riding coach, man friend, moto dad, Brand Manager for Matrix Canada, etc. The list of intangibles is long for ‘Newf’ (his long-standing nickname in the industry). He’s like the Swiss Army knife of Canadian motocross as there aren’t too many things he can’t do. Here are Newf’s Top 10 racing moments.

1. 2003 Deschambault National – First Ever Moto Win!
The one and only moto win of my career. Even though it’s been almost 20 years I remember that day like it was yesterday. All of the pieces of the puzzle came together in that moto and I remember it being the easiest race of my life. Funny how that works.
2. 2002 Joliette National – First Ever Podium
My first ever podium with Mike Treadwell and Derek Fisher. It was a cool moment for sure and one that gave me a lot of confidence.
3. 2007 Moncton National- Holeshots!
I holeshotted both 450 motos that day with all of my friends and family watching. I ended up going 4-6 on the day.

4. 2012 Gopher Dunes National – Off the Couch!
It was my first national in four years and I had the opportunity to fill in for Kyle Keast on the Machine Racing Yamaha Team after he got hurt. I holeshotted the second 450 moto and took $100 from John Nelson. I’m not sure what felt better, leading the second moto for a bit or taking money from my good buddy John.
5. 2012-2016 Walton Transcan – Vet Success!
All of my moto wins in Youth, Plus 25 and Vet Master are all very special to me. I love going to the Walton TransCan each year, and to have some success there as a Vet rider definitely means a lot to me.
6. 2004 Toronto Supercross – Indoor Fun!
Getting on the podium at the 2004 Toronto SX was very special and a moment I will never forget. The track was a lot of fun, and since the race was in Toronto, there was a lot of Canadian fans in the stands.
7. 2005 Canadian AX series – Two AX Wins!
Back in 2005 I was able to get a main event win in Winnipeg and then in Chilliwack. Darcy Lange, Klatt, Beats, Facciotti and Dube were all there, and to beat those riders felt so good.

8. Moto Park 2006 – Snow Biking!
It was a cool little Pro money race that Moto Park put together the weekend before the opening round of the 2006 CMRC Nationals. I ended up winning and it was a great confidence builder for me heading into the national series. It was so cold and wet that day, and at one point it was snowing.
9. 2008 SDL National – Fun Times at SDL!
That day I went 2-4 for 4th overall in the 250 class. During the first moto I followed Kyle Beaton around for the entire moto waiting for him to throw it away, but it didn’t happen. I’m still mad at him to this day for not letting me win that moto. Anyway, I rode good that day and I still cannot believe that a 2-4 moto score didn’t get me on the podium.
10. 2012 Springhill AX – Hometown Hero!I entered my hometown race without really racing or even riding for four years. However, on night two I found some speed and ended up winning in front of all of my friends and family. It was such a cool moment and one that I’ll never forget.
